Leftover flowers are making a lasting impact!

When our volunteer Ruth Lohmann (also a designer at Kati Mac Floral Designs) saw an opportunity to brighten the days of our hospice patients and families, she and the team at Kati Mac brought the idea to life. Using flowers left over from weddings, their team creates beautiful arrangements for Willow Tree Hospice, an Amedisys company in Kennett Square, PA.

From the hands that design to the lives touched by each bouquet, every person involved is part of something beautiful. Thank you to the entire Kati Mac team for helping us serve with heart.

We strive to keep our patients where they call home, so someone in your neighborhood might be waiting for you 💚🏠💚

Perhaps you’ll bring a book and read to them for an hour while they enjoy your voice and company. Or you might pick up the phone and have a friendly conversation with a patient that has a few good stories to share. Maybe you’ll send a letter for a caregiver to read to their loved one. We have many avenues to serve.

Somewhere, nearby, someone is waiting for you.

Our friends at the Oak Ridge Senior put us to work for their annual holiday lunch! We were there with two dozen other community partners working together to feed nearly 400 seniors in our community. What a great way to spend the morning!

When I got home and emptied my pockets, I found this classic strawberry candy. I grabbed it earlier during my travels through parts of our community, where I participate in events, talk to folks about hospice care, and create opportunities for deeper discussions. Often, I hear the stories of how Amedisys has positively affected the life of a caregiver of someone who was in our care; those conversations are my favorites. And that ties into the significance of this tiny treat I found in my pocket. It represents my WHY, why I choose to work in hospice care: the experience that I had with hospice caring for my precious grandmother.

That little candy was always found deep in the folds of her purse, a secret treat she allowed me to grab whenever I wanted. My grandmother passed in 2019. She was a cornerstone in my life and one of my biggest cheerleaders. My mother, even after the diagnosis and my grandmother's wishes not to treat her disease aggressively, was never quite ready to accept losing her mom and she needed the support in ways she didn’t realize until it was available. For us, hospice care was pivotal in allowing us to spend the most time possible with our loved one, knowing that someone else was taking the wheel in care, education, guidance, and steps to take as we came closer to the end. My mom especially needed the extra support and guidance in the weeks and months following. She still has the cards they sent her after my grandmother's passing, and we both agree that the experience of having a dedicated team of empathetic professionals was the most valuable gift we could have received. I recently found one of these candies inside a bag of hers as I was cleaning out her closet, and now I think of her whenever I see a bowl of them at a community center or senior center on my route.

That's my why. And I love hearing yours.

All of the employees of Amedisys Knoxville want to give our appreciation to those who have served. Thank you for your service and sacrifice.

Today we honored the veterans within our community with a float in the 99th annual parade in downtown Knoxville and scooping up banana splits at Ben Atchley, a state veteran home. We had a full day and feel blessed to be able to serve those who have served.

This week and the next, we are taking moments to honor the veterans within our community and give a bit back to those who gave selflessly for our freedoms as a nation. Today, we were happy to provide the annual Veterans Day breakfast at the Halls Senior Center! Several veterans, veterans’ wives, and supporters came through to munch and chat. A regular at the center made time to find me and let me know that she greatly appreciated the care we gave her husband and the support we gave her as he was in our care. We hear these stories often, and we’ll share a couple of tears, a hug, and take a moment to commiserate.

One of the more incredible aspects of our Knoxville care center community is the collaboration and cooperation around caring for our seniors and veterans! Our friends at Arosa Care and wonderful volunteers front the center partnered with us to create a well-received spread. Mrs. Diana baked those muffins fresh; we appreciate all of her efforts!

We are grateful for these opportunities to serve our community, get to know everyone, and educate folks about our care.
