Winter Rest: Restorative Yoga Retreat
January 23-25, 2026
Blue Mountain Retreat Center

Winter rest, from the German winterruhe, is when plants and animals reduce their activity in the cold months in order to be productive in the spring. It’s nature’s proof to us that rest is not simply laziness but a necessity. This retreat is an opportunity to reflect on your past years’ accomplishments and to renew your body and mind with deep rest in preparation for what is to come.

The main focus of the weekend is Restorative Yoga. In addition, you have options for more active all levels Hatha Yoga, hiking or leisurely walking, massage, quiet time, reading, napping, knitting, drawing, socializing with good company... whatever you need most!

You are welcome to participate in as much or as little as you like. Activities are suitable for students of all levels and abilities. Above all, no yoga or meditation experience is necessary.

Joint Care and Concsious Rest:
A Yin + Restorative Yoga Day Retreat
December 20, 1:30-6 pm
Uplift Yoga

Tara and Machelle will co-lead a full-body, gentle yoga practice to untangle tension in the body and the mind. Machelle will then guide you through a nurturing Yin Yoga practice designed for the support of the joints, ligaments, and fascia of the shoulders, low back, sacrum and spine while reading mediative texts to soothe your soul.

After a break, Tara will guide you in winding down even more through a series of propped Restorative Yoga poses. With calming music and very little talking, Restorative Yoga consists of doing less in order to receive more. The practice soothes the nervous system, quiets the mind, and releases deeply held tension within the body in a completely passive way.

The combination Gentle Yoga, Yin Yoga and Restorative Yoga will move you progressively into a profoundly relaxing afternoon.

Join us to remember the gift of who you are a little more clearly!

Strength & Flow: Core & Balance
4-week strength training + yoga series
Starts November 17, 2025
5:00-6:00 pm
Live-Stream

Strength and flow is back with a refined focus on core and balance!

In this series, we will learn how to properly engage and brace the core for compound movements, as well as employ accessory core work that builds strength in the trunk of the body. These low impact movements are designed to enhance posture, stability, and core connection.

You can expect both practices to be separately defined, with thirty minutes of strength work, and thirty minutes of slow flow yoga with a balance focus to complement the core connection we have built. There will always be plenty of options given to support your body and psyche anytime you come to your practice, and all fitness/yoga levels are welcome.

You will need two dumbbells (preferably no more than 10lbs each, but if you have a variety, you can change them up for certain exercises), two blocks, and a bolster for the practice.

Recordings will be available for 6 months for all registrants.

Restorative Yoga Mini-Retreat
November 23, 2025
2:00-4:00 pm
Lighthouse Yoga Center

At this time of the year, the natural world is calling us to wind down in the direction of winter but the demands of life in this season don’t allow much time to rest and reflect.

This two-hour min-retreat is the perfect opportunity for you to pause from the doing, settle in, and get the nourishing rest your body is craving.

Instead of asking your body and mind to do more, this practice will soothe your nervous system, quiet your mind, and help you release deeply held tension.

All of the props are skillfully arranged before you arrive so you simply show up and rest deeply.

Secrets of The Goddess Book Club
5 Week Series
Starts November 5, 2025
7:30-8:30 pm ET
Live-stream

In Hinduism, divinity manifests itself as The Goddess, who embodies the world. What does this have to do with the embodiment we experience as yoga practitioners?

Devdutt Pattanaik’s book “7 Secrets of Goddess” is a gem that offers accessible writing and dozens of annotated images of sacred art to help us understand the role of the Goddess in yoga and in our everyday life.

Join us for this 5-week book club to read and discuss the role of The Goddess in and influence on modern yoga practices. No reading is required before our first meeting.

This course is eligible for 5 continuing education credits with Yoga Alliance for registered teachers.stream

Hip to Hip
November 2, 2025
2-3:30 pm
Lighthouse Yoga Center in DC

There’s a saying that the hips govern all of our movements and our emotions.

If you feel tight and stiff physically or emotionally as we head into the shorter days and cold weather of winter, this workshop is for you.

We will take a gentle, supported approach to thawing out your hips in a practice mostly done reclining, with exercises and yoga poses to gently stretch and sweetly strengthen all sides of your hips.

We’ll end in a fully supported Restorative Yoga pose.

All levels welcome. No yoga experience necessary.

Check out these photos!

What and who do you recognize?

(Besides me trying to look as officially nerdy as I am at this desk with a stack of yoga books 🤓😂)

What I really hope you are curious about is…

🤔Who created and named these poses we do?

🤨Are these poses actually “ancient”?

🧐Why do we quote the Yoga Sutras?

Finding out the answers to these questions (and many more!) will begin to unpack yoga’s history and help you understand your place in it.

📣 Yoga teachers and students 📣

Are you ready to get serious about the difference between cultural appropriation and cultural appreciation?

Do you need some important meaning-making context for your present-day practice?

I promise can do all of this AND still feel inspired to continue to practice yoga!

YOU are an important part of the diverse and ever-evolving practices and that’s a very good thing!

Join me for a really fun and interesting live-streaming lecture with interactive discussion on Saturday, November 1, 1-3 pm ET. Recording and CEU’s available.

Comment YOGA HISTORY and I’ll tell you how to join us!

Bonus points if you can identify any of these photos. 😉 Comment if you know!
