Cosmetic surgery isn’t something you should be talked into, and it’s definitely not something you should rush.

I see it all the time, patients coming in thinking they’re ready, when in reality there are a few major things that need to be addressed first.

So in this episode of The Trillium Show, I’m breaking down 10 signs you might not be ready for cosmetic surgery. From unrealistic expectations and filtered inspiration photos, to bigger issues like body dysmorphia, life stress, and not having the right support system in place.

This isn’t about gatekeeping plastic surgery, it’s about making sure you’re actually set up for a good outcome. Because when the timing and mindset are off, that’s when people end up disappointed, or worse.

Every week, I see women in my office who feel uncomfortable in their own skin. And yet… they’re told it’s not something insurance will cover.

At the same time, there are cases where similar procedures are covered under different circumstances.

So the question becomes: What standard are we actually using?

If it’s about improving quality of life… shouldn’t that apply equally?

I’m genuinely curious where people land on this. Let me know your thoughts 👇

There are quite a few new people here lately, so I figured it was time to properly introduce myself.

I’m Dr. Jason Hall, a plastic surgeon here in Knoxville, TN.

I grew up in East Tennessee and always knew I wanted to be a doctor. My father was a cancer surgeon, and seeing how deeply he cared about his patients left a lasting impression on me.

My training took me across the country — Wake Forest, UT Southwestern in Dallas, UT Houston, and a craniofacial fellowship at Stanford — before my family and I ultimately decided to come back home to East Tennessee to build our life and our practice here.

Plastic surgery is an incredibly rewarding field because it allows me to help people in so many different ways. From reconstructive procedures to aesthetic treatments that help someone feel more confident in their own skin.

At the end of the day, the reason I love this work is simple: the ability to make a real, lasting impact on someone’s life.

If you’re new here, welcome. I’m glad you found me!

Upper eyelid heaviness can make the eyes look tired even when you feel great.

This patient is shown 6 months after an upper blepharoplasty combined with a brow lift, a procedure that lifts the brow to its natural position and removes excess upper eyelid skin. The goal isn’t to change how someone looks, but to restore a more refreshed, open appearance while keeping the result natural.

Subtle changes make a meaningful difference!

If you’ve noticed drooping lids or a heavy brow, this combination can be a very effective solution. Message me to book a consultation today

Six months after a deep plane facelift, the goal isn’t to look “different.” It’s to look like yourself again. Just more rested, lifted, and refreshed!

A deep plane facelift works below the surface, releasing and repositioning the deeper facial structures rather than simply pulling the skin tight. That’s why the result looks natural. The cheeks are restored, the jawline is sharper, and the face moves the way it’s supposed to.

Six months is an exciting point in recovery. Swelling has largely resolved, the tissues have settled, and the result is starting to fully reveal itself.

This is what thoughtful, structural facial rejuvenation looks like.

If you’re curious whether a deep plane facelift might be right for you, start with a consultation and a conversation. Book one with me today through the link in my bio.

Most of modern healthcare is very good at managing disease. What it’s not very good at is actually creating health.

I see this all the time. Someone’s labs come back “normal,” but they still feel exhausted, inflamed, foggy, gaining weight, and generally not like themselves. The system says everything is fine, but the patient knows something is off.

In this episode of The Trillium Show, I sat down with Danese Rexroad, Chief Clinical Officer at Ways2Well, to talk about what’s actually driving so much of the chronic illness we’re seeing today. Danese works at the intersection of metabolic health, hormone optimization, and functional medicine, and we had a really thoughtful conversation about why so many people fall through the cracks of traditional healthcare.

We talked about why metabolic dysfunction sits underneath so many major diseases, what’s really happening with hormones as we age, and why women navigating perimenopause are so often dismissed or told their symptoms are “just part of getting older.” We also got into environmental toxins like BPA and glyphosate, the role of strength training as we age, and how medications like GLP-1s can be helpful when they’re used thoughtfully and paired with the right lifestyle strategy.

This episode is really about zooming out and looking at the bigger picture. Not chasing symptoms, but understanding root causes and building a plan that protects your health span, not just your lifespan.

RF microneedling isn’t magic, it’s controlled injury + intelligent energy delivery.

When it’s done correctly, it can improve skin texture, firmness, and fine lines by stimulating your own collagen.
When it’s done poorly? You risk burns, fat loss, and disappointing results.

This is why device choice, depth, and experience matter.
There’s a right way to do this and LOTS of wrong ways.

To learn more about RF Microneedling and see if it’s the correct treatment for you, check out episodes 103, 101, and 90 of The Trillium Show.

At 62, facial aging isn’t just “loose skin.” It’s changes in deeper structures of the face and neck.

This is 6 months after a deep plane face and neck lift. A technique that repositions what’s actually falling, instead of just pulling the surface tighter.

No filters, no filler, no gimmicks. Just anatomy, time, and thoughtful surgery.

If you’re considering surgery, this is the part no one explains well online: good results should look like you, just less tired.

You don’t get “jowls” in isolation. Your jawline and your neck age together.

If you don’t understand that connection, it’s easy to chase treatments that don’t actually address the problem.

This episode breaks down what’s really happening anatomically when you see jowls forming on your face and how to think about your options before you waste money or get overtreated.

Listen today on episode 107 of the Trillium Show and make sure to tune in next Thursday for an even deeper dive on jowls.

Changing Lives In The USA And Abroad

This last point – being able to change the course of another person’s entire life for the better (and from the very beginning) – lays at the foundation of what being a doctor is. It is why I get up every day. It is also the reason I travel internationally on surgical missions. Overseas mission trips are exhausting, they are uncomfortable, and they are hard. However, to know after a week of surgery that I have personally changed the lives of twenty individual children and their families is a feeling that is difficult to describe, and without actually going on one of those trips, it’s difficult to explain. I would love it if you all had the opportunity to experience it, and encourage you to volunteer your time on one of these trips if you can.

That said, I realize that most people will never have the chance to experience a medical mission trip. However, I have come up with a way to allow everyone that has “joined” our practice family to share in the joy that comes with that kind of service.

We call this program “For You. For All.”

For every cosmetic procedure that I perform – from lesion removals to filler and Botox to surgery – a portion of the fee will be donated to charity organizations dedicated to improving the lives of children who otherwise would go without the surgical care that they need to live happy, fulfilled lives. It’s my way of giving – not only to those children, but to you. And every year, you’ll be able to see the impact you have on other children’s lives, simply by being a part of ours.
