It’s rare disease day, and I live with a rare disease: CLL/SLL. Even though CLL is the most common type of leukemia, it is still considered rare as only 4-5 out of 100,000 are diagnosed each year. The average age of a patient diagnosed is 72, and 2/3 are men. I was diagnosed at 40, so I’m extra rare! Do you live with a rare disease? Let’s learn about it and comment below!

Johnson & Johnson says internal testing showed some sunscreen samples contained low levels of benzene, which causes cancer with long-term exposure.

Alex Trebek, Ruth Bader Ginsburg, Luciano Pavarotti, Alan Rickman, Dizzy Gillespie, Patrick Swayze. A game show host, a Supreme Court Justice, an Opera singer, actors, and a world renowned jazz musician. What do these people have in common?

They all had Pancreatic Cancer. Cancer does not care how rich and famous you are. November is Pancreatic Cancer Awareness Month, and I have personally lost a good friend to pancreatic cancer. If you have a sudden loss of appetite, fatigue, abdominal pain, and/or unexplained weight loss, go see your doctor. These are signs and symptoms of many things but can also be the earliest signs of pancreatic cancer.

Breast cancer will affect 1 in 8 women. Think of 8 women you know right now. Reach out to those 8 women and ask them when was the last time they did a self check or had a mammogram.

Sometimes we get de-sensitized to something that is so in your face for so long. Don't let breast cancer be one of them! There is a reason this is so in your face for the month of October! Breast cancer is one of the most common cancers, and it can also occur in men. Please remember to check yourself on a monthly basis and report any strange lumps or bumps to your doctor. Also, keep an eye on any infections. These could all be signs of breast cancer.

Did you know there are 5 types of Gynecologic Cancers women can develop? September is Gynecologic Cancer Awareness Month. We mostly hear about Cervical and Ovarian, but there are three others women need to know. I challenge everyone who sees this to google all 5 of these cancers today and learn something new about them. Together, we can all raise awareness and, hopefully over time, the cure rate.

September is also Ovarian Cancer Awareness Month. This one is particularly hard to detect. Educate yourselves as much as possible on the early signs and prevention. Talk to your doctor about anything suspicious. You know your body the best!
