A first!

Last week, 10 Blount Memorial nurse residents officially graduated from the hospital’s first-ever collaborative nursing residency blending elements of critical care and the emergency department.

The 12-month program helps new nurse graduates successfully transition from their academic studies into clinical nursing through a rigorous combination of orientation and hands-on learning that results in more than 500 hours of training.

Just a reminder that we're here if you need us this Independence Day.

Our CareToday Clinic, located at 266 Joule Street in Alcoa, will be open Friday, July 4 from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. and will resume normal weekend hours on Saturday and Sunday.

There's no better way to beat the heat than with a swim!

On Thursday, the Prisma Health Wellness Center-Springbrook took part in The World’s Largest Swimming Lesson, which helps kids practice water safety and learn to become better swimmers.

More than 40,000 kids took part in the event, spanning 46 U.S. states and 21 countries.

And judging by these smiles, it was a huge success!

Our Total Rehabilitation team, in collaboration with OrthoTennessee Maryville - now KOC sports medicine surgeon Dr. Kyle Boden, and sports medicine physician Dr. Benjamin England, hosted a sports symposium for local coaches, athletic trainers and health care professionals who work with student-athletes.

A big thanks goes to keynote speaker Josh Nelson, director of performance science for the NFL’s Atlanta Falcons, for being part of today’s event.

Just a few of the topics discussed among these presenters and other regional sports medicine leaders included concussions, injury prevention, training protocols and sports performance - all things needed to help support the performance and health of our student athletes!

We were so excited to cut the ribbon on our new Prisma Health Total Rehabilitation clinic in Madisonville on Wednesday!

Conveniently located off U.S. Highway 411 and within walking distance from downtown, Prisma Health Total Rehabilitation at Madisonville brings new outpatient rehabilitation services to patients in the Madisonville area, including physical therapy, neurological therapy, vestibular therapy and more.

The facility opened in January and already has seen patients from Monroe County, McMinn County and Loudon County.

Thanks to everyone who joined us for yesterday's grand opening!

This program is open to local students ages 14-17 who are interested in careers in health care. They'll spend their time with us this summer helping out in areas such as Family Birthing, the emergency department and Total Rehabilitation.

But today, they're going through orientation to get comfortable with department locations, patient care and patient safety.
