The future is bright for these little visitors, and they certainly brightened our day!

We enjoyed being a stop on a local PreK group’s quest to learn about all the places that make up their community.

It was fun talking about our organs and where they are inside our body, visiting a wall of screws and thinking about construction, learning how exercise keeps us healthy, seeing our cafeteria, and playing a little dress up along the way!

We were honored to be recognized by Tennessee Hospital Association as part of their 2024 Zero Harm Awards, which spotlight hospitals and clinical departments that are eliminating harm, saving lives, avoiding unnecessary costs and advancing THA’s goal of zero preventable harm.

To earn a Zero Harm Award, a hospital or clinical department must achieve zero healthcare-associated infections over a full calendar year in specific categories.

Five Prisma Health Blount Memorial Hospital clinical departments received a total of eight Zero Harm Awards in the categories of Central Line-Associated Bloodstream Infections (CLABSI) and Catheter-Associated Urinary Tract Infections (CAUTI), including:

⦁ 4-North: CAUTI and CLABSI
⦁ 5-South-1: CAUTI and CLABSI
⦁ Critical Care Unit: CAUTI and CLABSI
⦁ Family Birthing Center: CAUTI
⦁ 4-South IMU: CLABSI

The awards are part of a collaboration between THA and the Tennessee Center for Patient Safety (TCPS), and recipients were announced at THA’s Annual Meeting last month. In all, 106 THA member hospitals earned Zero Harm Awards.

Congrats to these units and departments for all their hard work!

Words don’t express just how thankful we are for them!

Three volunteers were honored for reaching the 11,500 Hour category: Becky Dodson, Bonnie Mason and Joan Speck.

We may have met some future heath care providers and leaders this week at the 8th Grade Career Exploration Fair! Only time will tell!

Our team members showed some hands-on ways our clinicians help save lives and restore function and mobility every day.

We taught students how to use an AED (automated external defibrillator) and to perform hands-only CPR in an emergency. We also showed some of the ways that rehabilitation professionals help patients through physical, occupational and speech therapies.

Thanks to the Blount Partnership for hosting this annual event and showcasing all the available careers in our community!

15 years!

Congrats to the team at our Sleep Health Center for all the hard work they put into attaining and maintaining accreditation from the American Academy of Sleep Medicine for 15 consecutive years.

AASM-accredited sleep centers provide diagnostic and therapeutic care for people who have problems related to sleep and alertness. Sleep disorders include obstructive sleep apnea, chronic insomnia, restless legs syndrome, and narcolepsy.

To receive and maintain accreditation for a five-year period, a sleep center must meet or exceed all standards for professional health care as designated by the AASM. These standards address core areas such as personnel, facility and equipment, policies and procedures, data acquisition, patient care, and quality assurance. Additionally, the sleep center’s goals must be clearly stated and include plans for positively affecting the quality of medical care in the community it serves.

On a particularly hot day this summer, Robert Landers was weed-eating the steep bank near his home off Highway 411 when he got dizzy and fell. Prisma Health Home Equipment Services service technician Brent Greene just happened to be passing by, saw Robert laying in the ditch and stopped to help.

“There’s two steep parts that I can’t run over with the mower, so I have to weed-eat it,” Robert Landers said. “Everybody tells me I’ve got no business being on that bank weed-eating, especially since I’ll be 83 in November.”

“As I got closer, I saw a gentleman lying face down on the ground. I didn’t know exactly what he was doing, but I saw a weed-eater lying beside him,” Brent Greene said. “I made a U-turn. By the time I got back to him, he was rolling onto his back and trying to get up. I pulled up beside him and helped him sit up.”

“We are in the business of helping people,” Brent Greene said. “I just did something that anybody should’ve done.”
