For today's Testimony Tuesday we are highlighting Cassidy! She was the second woman to graduate from ATCWW back in 2020. She recently came and shared her testimony with the women who are currently in the program so we thought we'd take the opportunity to ask her some questions.
Q: How long have you been free from addiction?
A: 5 wonderful years!
Q: What did you learn at ATCWW that has helped you most in your time since?
A: That I am worthy of God's love because of the sacrifice of our savior, Jesus Christ. When I feel shame for my past or for present mistakes, I remember that Jesus knew I would fail sometimes, and He chose me anyway. He hand picked me, long before I was a thought in my mother's mind...knowing. Knowing exactly how I would misstep and fall away. Exactly how I would question and doubt. He knew. And He loves me despite me.
Q: How did the Aftercare program impact your recovery?
A: It was absolutely a Godsend. After graduating the program I realized that the hard part had just begun. Sure, I had a year of sobriety under my belt, but I had been protected inside the program. I hadn't listened to music about drugs or alcohol, hadn't watched much TV that confronted the subject, hadn't run into anyone that reminded me of my past. But that protection can't last forever. Eventually you have to go out and face these things. Without having a safe place to come home to after returning to a dark world, I would not have survived the first few months of recovery outside the program.
Q: What do you still struggle with? (How can we pray for you?)
A: I still struggle with trusting God's perfect timing. I want things for my life. I hope for things for my future. And as much as I want to say that I've got it all figured out and that I know God will come through, I still sometimes doubt. I find myself clinging to people and things that I know are not God's best for me in trying to fill a void only He can fill. If you pray, please pray for my ability to step back from my life and place it in His hands. He is the one in control, after all.
Q: What's your advice for someone who's thinking of applying to come into the program?
A: You're worth it. You're worth the time and energy it takes to heal. You're worth the sacrifice you have to make to come here, to stay. You are worth finding joy and love for maybe the first time in your life. You are worthy of happiness. YOU. ARE. WORTHY. OF. GOD'S. LOVE.
