National Fire News: The National Preparedness Level has increased to a 4 (PL4) as of today, August 5, at 7:30 (MDT). Significant wildland fire activity has increased across multiple Geographic Areas with substantial commitment of resources. The National Interagency Coordination Center (NICC) has seen a decrease in availability and heavy competition of all nationally shared resource types. Predictive Services forecasts the continuation of weather patterns that are conducive to large fire ignition and growth.

What is a preparedness level (PL)? They range from the lowest (1) to the highest (5). Each one includes specific management actions and involves increasing levels of interagency resource commitments. As preparedness levels rise, so does the need for incident management teams and suppression resources, which include wildland fire crews, engines, support personnel, helicopters, airtankers and other aircraft, and specialized heavy equipment, such as bulldozers.

We’re looking for an engine boss for next season, possibly this season. We have a zero tolerance policy. No nonsense. This is your notice. (I will provide the company conduct policy on request) If you don’t want to comply don’t read on.
The first thing I will say is that every engine boss thinks he’s the greatest. Most of you aren’t. So don’t go there. Don’t tell me your worth 700-1000 a day. You will earn the right to be the engine boss. And you will earn the right to keep your job. I will not guarantee hours, you will be paid for actual hours worked. You will need to earn the right to get guaranteed hours per day.

I will expect you to be able to work and not look to sit and hide to collect easy pay. Be willing and ready to do what the overhead request. (In a safe manner) I expect you to safely take care of the crew and yourself. Keep peace amongst the crew. And if there is a problem keep it in house.

I will require you to provide evaluations from your fires as well as references from other(s) you have worked for. Then I will set up an interview with you.

The pay is competitive. But not top dollar. The pay ranges from $40-42 per hour. The first 40 hours you will get an extra $4 and change for health and welfare. Then after the 40 hours then it goes to overtime and you would get time and a half on the base pay (40- 42 per hour). The health and welfare pay goes away.
If you want to interview for the job contact me.

Oh my!

: Significant fire activity increased in July, especially during the latter half as the national increased from two to three (scale one to five) on July 21. Much of the significant fire activity was in the Southwest Geographic Area, but the Northern Rockies and Northwest Geographic Areas have multiple long-duration incident management team wildfires on the landscape. Initial attack increased across much of the West throughout July, including in Southern Area late in the month, with new large wildfires also emerging. Alaska had its slowest season on record until the last week of July when dozens of new wildfires, including several large wildfires, ignited due to prolific lightning and moderately receptive fuels. Year-to-date acres burned for the U.S. is well below the 10-year average at 31%, with a below average number of fires as well, at about 89% of average. : Due to an increase in significant fire activity in multiple geographic areas with incident management teams actively engaged and an increase in competition for most national resource types, the National increased to level 3 (also known as PL 3) today, July 21.
