In shelter-in-place America, people have been filling their freezers full of meat, not just veggies. Meanwhile, at the plants where the meat is packed, the big question is: What happens if the workers start getting sick? It will be a miracle if all plants run un-impacted. While many sources claim there is no evidence that eating meat is the source of the coronavirus outbreak, the fact is that raising or transporting distressed animals for food in filthy conditions is a breeding ground for diseases.

The World Health Organization says, “To protect yourself, such as when visiting live animal markets, avoid direct contact with animals and surfaces in contact with animals. Ensure good food safety practices at all times. Handle raw meat, milk or animal organs with care to avoid contamination of uncooked foods and avoid consuming raw or undercooked animal products.”

Please remember, there are no guarantees that cooking meat kill all dangerous bacteria.

Do yourself a favour and start eating vegetables!

Yes, we live in extraordinary times. Before coronavirus the Amazon inflamed, Australia’s sky clogged with smoke that seemed to swallow the way of life. And now the pandemic tearing up daily norms which might also have been caused by human choices and behavior. Scientist believe that coronavirus originated from bats. However, bats have dealt with many viruses for years. They have high metabolism and temperature when they fly, and that often keeps their infections in check unless they are under the stress.

Experts point that shipping bats to Wet Market in Wuhan, China where stressed animals transfer diseases easily to each other and then maybe humans. There is a term for this, such as zoonotic spillover.
In the past, people affected by animals in remote places would die or recover before they could spread it. Today they can get on the plane to a different city that night. ⚫️ #2020

Most of us aren't scientists or doctors. Reading press releases, or looking at data perhaps are not the best options for a majority of people. However, right now we need to stay as informed as possible. This article aftfully breaks down high-science into a simple human-centric story, making readers experience scenes in a cinematic way. Bravo!

Single-use plastic is still everywhere: soda bottles, bags, food packaging, coffee cups, lids, straws — you name it. We’ve been told for decades that recycling is the solution for these disposable products, yet a whopping 90% of global plastic isn’t recycled — and an enormous quantity of it is ending up in our oceans. Without significant and urgent change, we face handing the next generation a garbage dump instead of an ocean, unfit for marine life. So what will it take to change the behavior?

This Chinese artist is turning trash into high fashion to send a message about the destructive power of human consumption. Wan Yunfeng's gowns are crafted from discarded items, draped and twisted around his body and photographed for series, the “Protection of the Ocean.” Wan's outfits make him appear entangled in nets and plastic waste, his facial expressions intended to mirror the pain of trapped ocean animals. "I make clothes to bring awareness to the environment, it is performance art. So of course you can't wear these clothes in daily life, it is to deliver a message of environmental protection," said. PICK OF THE WEEK
Check out first ecological running shoe: The Condor.
The so-called "post-petroleum" shoe joins the growing ranks of eco-runners. The Condor is the perfect balance between organic materials and running optimization. Approximately 53 percent of the Condor is made with bio-based and recycled materials; the remaining 47 percent is virgin plastic and rubber. It’s a number that Kopp (cofounder of Veja) says is an honest, if improvable, entry point for a running shoe made by a self-funded company. Veja is up against bigger, more established sportswear and clothing companies that in recent years have rolled out their own version of “eco-conscious” sneakers.
It mixes innovative fabrics such as the Alveomesh made of 100% recycled plastic bottles, and natural materials such as Ricinus oil, natural latex, banana oil, sugar cane, rice husk (wastes from the food industry) and wild rubber from the Amazonian forest. They are made in Brazil in a factory that respects workers’ rights. It’s VEJA’s first step into the running world.
Currently available on our eshop: veja-store and at our selected retailers.
