Student Spotlight: Lisa Mckean ✨
Lisa is the affiliate owner of and coach at crossfit_caffeinated in Santee! 🏋🏻♀️♥️
She first came to yoga seeking balance. “I was looking for something to complement my traditional strength and cardio training,” she shares. “I felt I needed to add a gentle balance to the intense physicalness of my workouts.” What she found surprised her. “Little did I know how ‘hard’ yoga was… it was as hard as my workouts but in a completely different and amazing way.” 💪🏼
For Lisa, yoga has become a lifelong companion. “Just as I will always strength train, I will always practice yoga,” she says. “It connects with a side of me that makes me a better athlete, physically and mentally.” Beyond the physical, her practice offers something deeper. She shares, “It allows me to slow down the parts of my mind that want to speed up… and has taught me patience and acceptance in movements.” 🧘🏻♀️
Like many practitioners, Lisa continues to grow through challenges on the mat. “Not jumping ahead” is one she’s actively working on. “I often find myself anticipating what is to come… but when I do, I miss the nuances of each of the movements.” Her intention this year? “To be more purposeful in my practice and listen, then do, as the instructor guides us through each pose.” ✨
Through yoga, Lisa has embraced a powerful mindset shift: “To have acceptance and not expectation. Because each day, class, movement… is different each time I perform it.” This perspective keeps her grounded and present, both on and off the mat. 🙏🏻
A longtime member of the San Diego Yoga Center community, Lisa says what keeps her coming back is simple—“The instructors and the community… it is truly a wonderful place to be.” 🧡
