Nancy is home and focusing on recuperating. She tires very easily and has many follow up appointments, making meal prep unmanageable. Please consider signing up for a day on the Meal Train.

After a long wait, Nancy received a liver transplant on November 17. She is home from the hospital but there is a long recovery. She is not able to go out to get groceries. She tires very easily, making it very difficult for her to cook meals even though eating and staying strong are so incredibly i...

Mom was discharged and went home last night, way ahead of what we thought would happen! She is getting used to some new routines but she’s very happy with her progress

She cannot receive fresh/live flowers for now due to high risk for bacterial infection. She can definitely receive cards, texts, calls, etc. I’ll talk to her about whether they will need help with meals and pass that along soon.

I’m on the phone with Mom right now. She says she appreciates all of the thoughts and prayers. The transplant team says she is healing wonderfully and may be heading home tomorrow.

She does have her cell phone so she can respond to texts and answer phone calls in between the many providers who are in and out of her room all day.

Rayna, Brian, and I just got off the phone with my mom. She’s in good spirits and progressing well. She was even able to do a Mad Lib with us. Thankfully it wasn’t TOO funny - she didn’t want to laugh so hard it hurt!

I just spoke with Mom’s nurse. Things are progressing well. She is completely is tube-free, with just a nasal cannula for oxygen. She is off all sedation and BP meds. Yesterday she only needed one bag of blood, which is great for a liver transplant. There is some fluid from the incision site and Mom is confused when she wakes up, but she said that’s very normal in liver transplants at this point. The only complaint my mom had overnight was some back pain, so they are keeping an eye on that. The nurse and the charge nurse were discussing stepping Mom down to a regular room as she isn’t requiring any ICU-specific treatments.

The nurse was very happy with her progress and said she is doing very well compared to most liver recipients.

It is a wonderful day!

Yesterday afternoon we got call #10 about a cadaver liver. Lucky #10! Surgery started around midnight. The surgeon called Dad around 5:30 am to tell him the surgery was a success and Mom would be taken to Surgical Trauma ICU. She is sedated and intubated currently and will likely remain in the ICU for about a week.

We will continue to update as things progress.

Listen to this cute video of Nancy’s grand daughter’s plans for a Nana/Rayna roadtrip when she gets her driver’s license. Rayna was 3 when this video was recorded. She is 9 now. Keep spreading the word Rayna can make this future roadtrip a reality.
