🌿 Who We Are & What We Do 🌿

Hi friends, new and old 🤍
We’ve had so many new faces join us recently, and I wanted to take a moment to introduce ourselves and share the heart behind what we do here at Folk Medicine Farm Apothecary.

My name is Hannah, and I’m a clinical herbalist, born and raised right here in West Georgia. This little shop on Hill Street is more than just a store, it’s a calling, a passion, and a place built on the belief that herbal medicine should be accessible to everyone.

🌿 What We Do:

• We handcraft small-batch herbal medicines—teas, tinctures, syrups, salves, and more—using locally sourced, homegrown, and thoughtfully chosen ingredients.
• We offer one-on-one herbal consultations to support your health naturally and holistically.
• We teach classes and workshops to help bring herbal knowledge back into our community.
• We partner with local farms, midwives, and families to keep traditional plant medicine alive and thriving.

And maybe most importantly…

🤍 We serve our community.

In October 2025, we started our Porch Pantry after seeing a need when SNAP benefits were cut. What started as a small effort has grown into something so much bigger than we ever imagined.

Because of YOU, we have:
• Helped feed countless families
• Provided hygiene items to those in need
• Given out thousands of bottles of water during the summer
• Hosted free herbal clinics in Western North Carolina after Hurricane Helene
• Supplied midwives and families with essential herbal support

This shop runs on love, faith, and community support, and we are so grateful to be a small part of something so much bigger.

If you’re new here, welcome 🤍
If you’ve been with us for a while, thank you for walking this journey with us.

We’re not just an apothecary…
We’re a community.

Herbal medicine is God’s medicine and we love sharing it with you!

With love,
Hannah & Kyla🌿

💔 A Very Hard Post to Make…

Back in October of 2025, we started our Porch Pantry as a way to help supplement food for families when SNAP benefits were cut. What we didn’t expect was just how deep the need truly was in our community.

Even after SNAP was reinstated, so many families have continued to rely on this pantry and time and time again, this community has shown up in the most beautiful way to keep it filled.
That is something I will never be able to put into words. What a blessing this town is.

But there’s another side to this… and it’s one I’ve carried quietly for a long time.

The truth is, we are dealing with constant abuse and theft.
It has now gotten to the point where I cannot sleep through the night because I am worried about what’s happening at the shop.

I have never publicly called anyone out. I’ve never posted photos. I’ve tried to handle this with grace, patience, and understanding.

But this weekend broke me.

One individual came and completely cleared out the pantry
• Took every item from the fridge
• Took our hygiene box from the cabinet
• Has returned multiple times looking for more
• Took over 100 feminine hygiene products
• Has repeatedly taken formula and diapers and has been heard saying he is selling them

Another individual ripped down our signs, threw them on the ground, and attempted to break into our locked cabinet.

Another took nearly everything available eggs, cold foods, soups and then lied to my face when confronted as she carried a box of food up Hill Street.

This is not new behavior.
This is just the first time I’ve spoken about it publicly.

I have carried the weight of this for as long as I can.

So today, I have to make some changes.

➡️ The Porch Pantry will no longer be open 24/7
➡️ The brown cabinet is being removed
➡️ New Hours:
Tuesday–Friday: 10:30–5:00
Saturday: 10:30–2:00

The porch will be blocked after hours, and anyone found on the property outside of these times will be trespassed.

And I hate that it has come to this.

Because this pantry is not for those abusing it.
It’s for the elderly neighbor walking down the street.
It’s for the single mom trying to stretch groceries.
It’s for the families doing their best and just needing a little help.

That’s who this was built for.

At this point, I don’t know what else to do.
It is heartbreaking to give so freely and be taken advantage of over and over again.

We are going to give this one last chance.

But I cannot, in good conscience, continue asking this community for donations if the same few people are going to repeatedly take everything.

To those who have supported, donated, and loved this pantry,
thank you will never be enough. You are the reason it has helped as many people as it has.

To those who have abused it
please understand… you are not just taking from a business.
You are taking from your neighbors.

We are praying for change. We are praying for respect.
And we are praying this pantry can continue to serve the people who truly need it.

Just a friendly reminder that our 2nd Annual Community Seed Swap is happening tomorrow, Saturday 3/7! We’ll have a table set up outside the shop for all of our gardening friends to come swap seeds and celebrate the start of a new growing season together.

🌿 How it works:
Bring seeds you’d like to share, plant starts, or even extra gardening supplies. You’re also welcome to simply come browse what others have brought and take something home to plant! Just remember to leave plenty for others so everyone can enjoy.

Last year dozens of you came out and it was such a fun day of sharing seeds, stories, and gardening wisdom, we can’t wait to do it again!

🥫 Porch Pantry Reminder
If you’re coming by for the swap, this is also a wonderful time to bring a donation for the Porch Pantry. We are currently desperately in need of pantry staples, including canned meals, soups, pasta, rice, and canned meats.

🌿 Apothecary Restocks This Week

✨ Immune Boosting Elderberry Syrup has been freshly restocked!
Packed with elderberries, mullein, rosehips, echinacea, and oranges, this is one of our most loved immune formulas.

✨ Passion Flower Tincture is also back on the shelf!
A beautiful herb for calming the nervous system, easing stress, and supporting restful sleep.

✨ NEWLY Reformulated Moon Phase Tea has been bagged and added to the Grab & Go Tea Cart!
This nourishing blend was reformulated to better support the natural phases of a woman’s cycle and has already been getting so much love.

Stop by, swap some seeds, bring a pantry donation if you can, and see what’s new around the apothecary. We can’t wait to see everyone! 🌱

Our Porch Pantry is in urgent need of donations today. Right now our shelves are nearly empty, we currently only have apples and a few canned vegetables available.

This pantry is here to help neighbors in our community who are going through difficult times, and right now we truly need your help to keep it going.

We are in need of all pantry staples, including:
• Canned soups
• Chili and canned meals
• Pasta and pasta sauce
• Rice and beans
• Peanut butter and jelly
• Canned meats (tuna, chicken, spam)
• Shelf-stable milk
• Instant meals
• Snack items
• Hygiene items (soap, deodorant, toothpaste, wipes, etc.)

A friendly reminder:
Our Porch Pantry can only accept food and hygiene donations. Unfortunately we do not have the ability to store or distribute clothing, shoes, or toys.

If you have those items to donate, please consider supporting two wonderful local organizations:
• Grace Baptist Clothing Closet
• The Troup County Foster Association on Bartley Road

Donations for the pantry can be dropped off during store hours at Folk Medicine Farm Apothecary. Every item makes a difference, and every donation helps someone in our community get through another day.

Thank you for always showing up for this little pantry and for loving our community so well.

With gratitude,
Folk Medicine Farm Apothecary 💚

Three years ago we opened the doors on Hill Street with a prayer and a purpose.

Today, Folk Medicine Farm Apothecary turns THREE. 💚

In just three years, this little shop has:

✔️ Held multiple FREE Herb Clinics in Western North Carolina after Hurricane Helene
✔️ Kept midwives in WNC stocked with essential herbal items from our clinic
✔️ Given away 6,300 bottles of water during our Summer Water Giveaway
✔️ Opened the Porch Pantry and helped dozens of families right here in our own community
✔️ Restocked our shelves daily with clean, small-batch herbal medicine
✔️ Taught classes, poured candles, blended teas, filled capsules, and served faithfully

This has never just been a store.

It’s been a mission.
It’s been a calling.
It’s been community care in action.

Every time you shop.
Every time you donate.
Every time you share our posts.
Every time you pray for this place.

You are part of this story.

Three years in… and we are not slowing down. We are just getting started.

Thank you for standing with us.
Thank you for believing in community herbalism.
Thank you for helping us care for our neighbors.

Herbal medicine is God’s medicine. 💚
And we give Him all the glory.

🌿✨ What is a Hydrosol? The Herbal Water Your Skin Has Been Praying For ✨🌿

If you’ve been in the shop lately, you’ve seen our beautiful bottles of plant hydrosols on the shelf and so many of you have asked, “Is this the same as essential oil?”

The answer: No and that’s the magic.

A hydrosol is the gentle, water-based plant medicine created during the steam distillation process. While essential oils hold the concentrated volatile oils, hydrosols capture the water-soluble healing compounds of the plant, along with a very light natural aroma.

That means they are:

🌿 Safe for sensitive skin
🌿 Safe for elders & children
🌿 pH balancing & deeply hydrating
🌿 Gentle enough for daily use
🌿 True plant medicine in its most nurturing form

💜 Why We Love Lavender Hydrosol

Our Lavender Hydrosol is one of the most versatile remedies in the apothecary:

✨ Facial toner for acne, dryness & mature skin
✨ Cooling relief for sun-kissed or irritated skin
✨ Linen & pillow spray for restful sleep
✨ Support for stress, headaches & nervous system overwhelm
✨ Diaper bag & first aid kit staple

This is Appalachian folk herbalism at its finest; simple, effective, and rooted in the wisdom of the plant.

🌿 Hydrosol vs Essential Oil

Hydrosol → gentle, water-based, ready to use
Essential oil → highly concentrated, must be diluted

Both are beautiful… but hydrosols are the ones you can reach for all day, every day.

At Folk Medicine Farm Apothecary, we believe in remedies that the whole family can use, safe, effective, and created in small batches with intention and prayer.

Come by the shop and let us show you how to work hydrosols into your daily herbal routine 🌿

🌙✨ Moon Phase Tea – Reformulated for Deeper Cycle Support ✨🌙

One of the most beautiful things about walking beside women in every season of life is witnessing how our bodies move in rhythms, just like the moon.

Our newly reformulated Moon Phase Tea was created to nourish, tone, calm, and support the natural flow of the menstrual cycle, from first moon to wise woman years.

This blend is gentle enough for daily use and powerful enough to truly feed the reproductive system.

🌿 What’s inside & why it matters:

• Red Raspberry Leaf – the ultimate uterine tonic
Helps tone and strengthen the uterus while supporting healthy, more comfortable cycles.

• Nettle Leaf – deep mineral nourishment
Rich in iron, calcium, and magnesium to help build the blood and restore what the body gives each month.

• Spearmint – hormone-balancing ally
Traditionally used to support healthy androgen levels and bring harmony to the endocrine system.

• Skullcap – for the frazzled nervous system
Eases tension, supports PMS irritability, and helps the body move out of that constant state of overwhelm.

• Marshmallow Root – soothing & moistening
Cooling, comforting, and supportive to inflamed or depleted tissues, especially when cycles are exhausting.

• Lemon Balm – the happy hormone herb 🌼
Lifts the mood, calms the heart, and supports the hormone–nervous system connection.

🌸 Why we reformulated:
We removed heavier hormone-directing and sedative herbs so this tea can be:

✨ safely enjoyed every day
✨ supportive for teens to women going through perimenopause
✨ deeply nourishing instead of forceful
✨ aligned with the body’s natural rhythm, not overriding it

This is not a “quick fix” tea.

This is a feed your body, love your cycle, reconnect to your rhythm tea. 🌙💕

Perfect for:
🌿 painful or irregular cycles
🌿 PMS mood swings
🌿 hormone transitions
🌿 postpartum replenishment
🌿 perimenopause support
🌿 young women just beginning their moon time

Your cycle is not a burden, it is a vital sign of health.

And it deserves to be nourished.

Moon Phase Tea is now available in the shop and online in fresh small batches.
Come let us help you choose the herbs your body has been asking for. 🌿🤍
