Rescue life isn’t just about food and shelter — it’s about helping animals thrive, not just survive. 💛

Today we’re featuring enrichment for dogs, a key part of Fear Free and positive welfare practices!
Enrichment keeps dogs mentally stimulated, confident, and calm — especially those adjusting to new environments or recovering from trauma.

Here are some simple ways to add enrichment to your dog’s day:
🧠 Puzzle Feeders: Make mealtime a challenge.
👃 Sniff Walks: Let them explore with their nose, not just their feet.
🎾 Interactive Toys: Rotate toys to keep them exciting.
🪵 Chew Options: Natural chews satisfy instincts and relieve stress.
🫶 Positive Interaction: Gentle play and training build trust and confidence.

Every enrichment moment is a chance to help a dog feel safe, engaged, and loved. 💕

🐾 : Helping Scared Dogs Feel Safe 🐾
In rescue, we meet many dogs who are fearful — not “bad,” just overwhelmed. The Fear Free Shelter approach reminds us that behavior is communication. Scared dogs aren’t giving us a hard time…they’re having a hard time. 💛

Here are Fear Free ways to support a fearful dog:
✅ Go Slow: Let them approach on their own time.
✅ Make Space: Avoid hovering or cornering — give them escape routes.
✅ Use Low, Soft Voices: Calm energy = calm dog.
✅ High-Value Treats: Pair new people and experiences with positive rewards.
✅ No Forced Touch: Consent-based handling builds trust faster than restraint.

With patience, predictability, and compassion, scared dogs learn that humans are safe. And once they feel safe…they can finally begin to shine. ✨

🐹 Myth vs. Fact: Gerbil Edition!
Myth: “Gerbils are smelly pets.”
Fact: Gerbils are actually one of the cleanest small animals! Because they come from dry desert environments, they don’t sweat and produce very little waste — which means far less odor than many other small pets. 🌵✨

Gerbils are tidy, social, and full of personality — they deserve love, not labels! 💛

📣🐾 Exciting Update from Healing Haven Rescue & Rehab! 🐾📣

We’ve moved to Kansas and are currently operating from a temporary facility until the end of the year. 🏡💛

While we’re settling in, we’re planning for the future – with your help, we hope to raise the funds needed to resume full rescue operations in January! 🐶🐱🐹
