Today's shoutout goes to our Clinical Fellow, Emily Weitekamp! Emily is off to a strong start in her career as an SLP, having completed externships with medically complex populations at the Aphasia House and AdventHealth Outpatient Neuro Sports Med & Rehab in Orlando while earning her Master’s degree at UCF.

She continues to grow her expertise in upper airway disorders with Cobalt Therapy, where she evaluates, and treats conditions affecting the airway above the vocal cords, including breathing difficulties, voice disorders, and swallowing issues.

Patient feedback has been overwhelmingly positive, and we are so proud of the progress she is making! Way to go, Emily! 🙌💙

Most people may not know this, but Medicare has been cutting back on reimbursements to Medical providers since 2012. Rates continue to increase for Medicare plans and tax breaks are projected to expire for the upcoming 2026 year. Inflation is well on the rise with "CEO compensation surging by approximately 1,085%, from 1978 to 2023 - far outpacing the 24% increase in typical worker compensation during the same period" (-Economic Policy Institute). It is getting harder for private practices to keep up with the increase to us in overhead costs with a simultaneous decrease in reimbursements. I'm not sure letters will help, but we certainly do not have anything to lose by writing other than a few minutes of our time. We are thankful to the many people that support our private practice and allow us to continue to serve Lake County 💙💙💙

As we like to say, "Test it, don't guess it". Our equipment has frame by frame play, both forwards and back. It allows us to find little things like this on review that could easily go unnoticed. You wouldn't treat a problematic hip without xrays or MRIs. Your problematic swallow deserves the same attention 🎥

She is a recent UCF graduate and brings to us her knowledge and skill sets obtained within her course work, as well as placements within medically complex rehab such as the Aphasia House and Advent Health Outpatient Neuro Sports Med & Rehab.
