Have you heard the news🗣️⁉️
The Florida High School Athletic Association (FHSAA) is updating the requirements for student athletes. The Second Chance Act will take effect on ⭐️JULY 1, 2026⭐️ The update will guide electrocardiogram (ECG or “EKG”) screening requirements.
Who Must Obtain an ECG?❣️📈🩺
☑️ All incoming 9th-grade student-athletes
☑️ Any student in grades 10–12 who has never participated in an FHSAA-sanctioned sports
☑️ Returning athletes are NOT required but strongly encouraged to obtain an ECG
The goal is to identify undetected cardiac risk factors and enhance athlete safety👍🏼💪🏼
The form will not be officially released until Board approval in early 2026 but families are encouraged to complete screenings EARLY.
An ECG performed on or after July 1, 2024 will satisfy the requirement.
👉🏼We now have an ECG machine in the office and we are getting it ready to go! Please keep in mind, that if your student athlete waits until last minute before their tryouts (which no teenager ever does, right?!🤔), there will be a chance they won’t be able to be cleared in time to participate. We plan to do everything we can to accommodate all of our little superstars but please try to plan ahead! 🫶🏼👍🏼
