Blackberry Point Haven

Blackberry Point Haven We are a licensed 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization (DS-546403), based in Wisconsin. This is our commitment to responsible rescue and population control.

We’re committed to doing rescue in a way that reflects our values—always with compassion, integrity, and in full accordance with the law. With over 60 years of combined experience in veterinary medicine and competition in the horse and canine arenas, we bring a deep understanding and passion to animal care. We frequently receive calls from shelters and individuals in Wisconsin and Illinois who, after breeding their pets, realize they are unable to care for the resulting litters. When we take in these puppies, we require owners to spay and neuter the parents as a condition of surrender, and we cover the costs to ensure the breeding cycle ends. By intervening before puppies end up in shelters, we help protect them from exposure to illnesses like parvo and other diseases common in high-volume environments. However, given our small size and limited resources, we must be selective about the cases we take on. Even so, when we cannot bring puppies into our care, we often direct families to resources and cover spay/neuter costs to make an impact beyond our walls. We recognize that our adoption fees are sometimes higher than others, but this is intentional. These fees discourage resale and ensure adopters are committed to the process. We follow conversation-based adoptions as recommended by the National No Kill Advocacy Guidelines, prioritizing thoughtful matches between pets and families. While some may have differing views, we do this because the costs of rescue often exceed adoption fees, keeping us operating at a deficit. In addition to dogs, we also foster horses, which comes with substantial expenses of its own. In 2024 we became a 501(c)3 rescue. These are crucial steps in strengthening our ability to help animals responsibly. While our preference was to stay off social media, circumstances have made it necessary to share our story more broadly. It’s worth noting that many rescues operate without licenses, which can be verified by checking your state’s licensed dog sellers list online. While a 501(c)(3) is not mandatory, a license is required to place more than 25 dogs annually in states like Wisconsin. Rescue work is as complex as it is rewarding. The animal welfare community is vast, and everyone has their own approach. Our focus is on doing what works best for us and the animals we care for. We encourage you to explore, learn, and choose what aligns with your values—no judgment here. There are many ways to help—this is ours. We may each do things differently, but together, we all play a role in making a difference.

🐾 Two Sweet Souls Still Waiting 🐾

These two young dogs have already lived through more hardship than any pup should. They came to us from Kentucky, where life was anything but kind. Now safe here in Wisconsin, they are healthy, loved, and ready for a new beginning.

They’ve both had their vet checks, f***ls, vaccines, deworming, and microchips. Their adoption fee also includes their future spay/neuter.

What breaks our hearts is that despite being posted for several days, not one single person has shown interest in them. 💔 They are gentle, loving, and so deserving of a chance to finally know what it feels like to be home.

Please help us change their story — by adopting, fostering, or even just sharing this post so the right family can see them.

Meet Huxley

Huxley is a tiny 2.5-pound Yorkie mix. His mom was a Yorkie and his dad was a dachshund/terrier mix who belonged to an elderly couple that needed a little help with their animals. Huxley made the long trip all the way from Oklahoma with his brother Harrison, and now he’s ready to find his forever home.

At just 2.5 pounds now, we don’t expect him to grow more than about 10 pounds full grown. He is as sweet and adorable as they come and will make a wonderful companion for the right family.

Huxley comes with:
• Full veterinary health check
• F***l exam
• First round of vaccinations
• Deworming
• Microchip
• Future neuter included in adoption fee

If you would like an application to adopt Huxley, please email us at info@blackberrypointhaven.com.

Last week, we had the privilege of teaming up with our friends at Down Home Real Estate Co. to donate several thousand pounds of dog food to the Milwaukee Homeless Veterans Initiative. During our visit, their incredible team welcomed us in, gave us a tour, and showed us firsthand the life-changing work they do every single day for those who have served our country.

With winter quickly approaching, our hearts are heavy knowing how difficult these months can be for so many veterans in need. We want to do everything we can to support them—not just with food for their pets, but also with warmth and dignity for themselves.

Thanks to the efforts of Down Home Real Estate Co., a coat and winter gear drive is now underway, with multiple local businesses stepping up to help make this possible. We are so grateful for each one of them and the community spirit they’ve shown.

If you’d like to make a difference, we welcome donations of winter coats, hats, gloves, boots, or other warm gear. Items can be dropped off at the following participating locations:

Together, we can keep our veterans and their beloved pets safe, warm, and cared for this winter. ❤️🇺🇸🐾

💔✨ Freedom Ride ✨💔

This beautiful girl, who we believe to be a Dogo Argentino mix, was only moments away from losing her life. She had no idea that her time was almost up—sitting in a shelter, waiting, with no one coming for her.

But because of the incredible kindness of Misa and her sister-in-law Lisa, her story didn’t end there. They opened their hearts and their home to foster her, giving her the chance to know safety, love, and a soft place to land. Without them, this little miracle wouldn’t have been possible. 💕

Soon she will be available for adoption, and we can only hope the family she’s meant to find steps forward to give her the forever home she so desperately deserves. 🏡

We also want to send a very special thank you to Mike and Kindsey at Great Plains Veterinary Service in Hinton, Oklahoma. Time and again, they have stepped up to help us get these precious souls the care they need. Without their support, we couldn’t continue saving lives like hers. 🙏🐾

Check out these absolute cuties that just made the trip all the way from Kentucky! 💕 Some seem to have a touch of Aussie in them, but are likely a mix of many wonderful things. This is not just one litter. This is multiple litters. There is one cutie in here that is definitely a Chihuahua mix.

These sweet pups came from a situation where a home had far too many dogs. Thankfully, our rescue partners at the local Humane Society stepped in to help, and then reached out to us so we could bring them here to Wisconsin.

They should mature to medium size dogs. Each one has already had a thorough vet check, f***l, deworming, shots, and microchip. Their adoption fee also includes their future spay or neuter.

Ryker isn’t just handsome – he’s truly a sweetheart. He’s doing wonderfully with crate training and potty training, and his favorite thing in the world is being close to his people. He just wants someone to love and someone to love him back.

Ryker’s adoption fee includes a future neuter, vet check, vaccinations, deworming, and microchip.

Meet Slick ❤️

Slick is a 10-year-old gelding whose new chapter in life is just beginning. For most of his life, he lived as a stud. He had a bit of training as a youngster, but without consistency or guidance, he developed some tough habits — and a big attitude to match. At times, that meant going after people in ways that weren’t so safe.

We knew deep down Slick deserved a chance to start over. After having him gelded, we began the slow and steady process of rehabbing him — teaching him trust, patience, and the kind of partnership every horse deserves.

Each day, we see glimmers of the horse he’s becoming. He’s learning to soften, to listen, and to lean into connection rather than conflict. His road isn’t a short one, but it’s a hopeful one. With the right mix of time, patience, and training, Slick has the chance to transform into not just a riding horse, but a true partner.

His journey is just beginning, and we’re honored to walk alongside him. 💙

These little cuties are proof that genetics have a sense of humor! Their mom is clearly a Doberman mix, but dad… well, he must have been a tiny long-haired guy because at 8 weeks old these pups are only between 4 and 5.5 pounds. They are literally mini sized Doberman pups!

They’ve already been vet checked, dewormed, had their first shots, and are microchipped—ready next week to start their next chapter. Adoption fee includes spay or nueter!

Small in size but big in personality, these pups are going to make some families very lucky.

Three little corgi mix puppies are ready to take on the world! Meet Echo, Everly, and Einstein—three tiny siblings, each just 8 weeks old and weighing about 3.5 pounds.
• Echo is the mighty mini man with short legs and a big heart.
• Everly is the sweet little lady who melts everyone she meets.
• Einstein is the goofy “genius” of the bunch, convinced he’s already figured life out (snacks and cuddles are the answer).

Their mom was a corgi, and their dad… well, he didn’t exactly stick around. But these three didn’t let that slow them down. Each one is packed with personality and ready to wiggle their way into forever homes.

They will go home with:
• First vet check
• F***l exam
• Microchip
• Dewormed
• First round of shots
• Adoption fee includes future spay/neuter

If you’ve been looking for a puppy to love, laugh with, and share your life with, one of these three might just be your perfect match. Don’t wait too long—tiny corgi mixes don’t stick around!

We are so proud to share some exciting news from right here at Blackberry Point Haven! One of our own board members, Gracie DeValk, officially signed with the U.S. Army today as an Animal Care Specialist while she pursues her dream of becoming a veterinarian.

Gracie brings with her seven years of incredible experience working at an exotic zoo, where she cared for and medicated everything from penguins to lions, tigers, and even rhinos. That unique background gives her an unmatched perspective in animal rescue, paired with a strong, hands-on work ethic that shines through in everything she does.

We are beyond proud of Gracie and know she will do amazing things both for the animals here and in her new journey serving our country.

She’s a 4-month-old female Terrier puppy SADIE, who is absolutely adorable and full of sweetness. This girl loves everyone she meets—dogs, cats, and kids included!

She’s already doing excellent with crate training and house training, and she’s fully up to date on all of her vet work. Her adoption fee also includes her future spay, so she’ll be all set as she grows.

She should mature into a small-sized dog, making her the perfect little companion for just about any family.

📢 Urgent Plea for Adult Dog Adoptions

If you’ve ever thought about adopting an adult dog—now is the time. We have several beautiful dogs in Kentucky who could come up to Wisconsin this Thursday, but only if we can get a few of them pre-adopted.

Every dog will be up to date on vet work, and if they are not already spayed or neutered, that will be included in the adoption.

We need to know by Tuesday afternoon if you’d like to adopt one of these wonderful dogs so we can secure their spots on transport.

Please consider opening your heart and home to an adult dog. They are so deserving of a second chance.

🌟 She’s safe! 🌟
We drove through the night to get this sweet girl — now named Nova! 💕 Not only were we able to bring her to safety, but we also pulled and saved two others alongside her.

She’s not pregnant like they thought. Just a little chubby. She’s had many litters and will finally be spayed.

A huge thank-you to our wonderful friend Jim McCain for dropping everything to rush to the shelter, get her out, and meeting us at the vet clinic. 🙌 And another big thank-you ( once again) to Kindsey and Mike at Great Plains Veterinary Service in Hinton OK for getting us in last minute.

Save a Heeler we obviously couldn’t do it without you! Thank you for your tireless work!

These pups had a lot of vet work done to get cleared and now they’re on their way to Wisconsin. 🐾

✨ It truly takes a team to save lives! ✨

UPDATE! 30 min and he found a home! You all are wonderful🚨 URGENT – FOSTER OR ADOPTER NEEDED TODAY 🚨

This sweet 5–6 month old puppy was dumped in Oklahoma and has the chance to come on transport to Wisconsin tomorrow — but we must secure a foster or adopter TODAY to hold his spot.

He is safe with one of our foster friends right now, and we’ll make sure he gets a full health check before leaving. He will be up to date on all vetting when he arrives.

He’s just a baby and deserves the chance to grow up in a safe, loving home. Please help us make sure he doesn’t miss his ride to safety!

Heeler friends!!
Age has slowed him down, his joints ache, and his circle of trusted humans is very small—two out of 8 billion, to be exact. Not the friendliest until he trusts you. But Isent that we love heelers?
But behind that tough exterior is a dog who desperately needs someone willing to look past it and take him out of this Kentucky shelter. He just wants one person to believe in him. Transport is available up to Wisconsin if you are interested, please message the page for an application. Ds 546403

Meet Thor. His story is one of heartbreak, resilience, and survival.

Thor has endured neglect not once, not twice, but three times in his life. The first time, he was starved and discarded into a kill pen. He was then adopted by a young man with good intentions, but sadly those intentions faded. Thor was left on rented land, and when the young man abandoned both him and his girlfriend, she reached out to us in distress. We brought Thor in, gave him the vet care he desperately needed, and helped him regain his weight and health.

Thor was then adopted by a wonderful family who loved him dearly. They boarded him at a draft-specific breeding and showing barn, believing he would continue to thrive. Unfortunately, during a period when the family was away for business, Thor once again suffered neglect and starvation. For legal reasons, we cannot yet share the name of the facility.

Thor is now back with us, safe and cared for. He is slowly regaining strength, enjoying short intervals of grass, and beginning the healing process once again.

This horse has shown a will to live and a gentle spirit despite everything he’s been through. We are committed to making sure this is the last time Thor ever has to recover from such treatment.
