How many of us feel like we are moving non stop?? We have endless to-do lists, errands to run, kids to feed, and so on. Maybe you lay awake in bed unable to sleep because you’re listing all the things you didn’t get to today. Maybe you carve out time for everyone else except yourself. Maybe you skip meals because you’re “too busy”. Or, maybe you simply never feel adequate or fulfilled.
Society tells us that in order to get where we want to go, we need to keep up the grind until we get there. We shouldn’t stop until we have reached the goal. The problem I see with this is that you (1) never enjoy where you’re currently at in life, (2) the only time you stop is when your bodies physically make you do so, and (3) you burn yourself out. I’m all for setting goals and putting in the work, but it’s also important to spend time appreciating how far you’ve come, listening to your body, and making time for self care and wellness along the way.
Your body is powerful and tells you when you need to rest, heal, and rejuvenate. It gives you signs. Do you look for them? This doesn’t just apply to physical sickness, but also mental stress and anxiety.
