This time of year can feel like it’s dragging… but really, it’s calling us inward. The snow, the cold, the quiet—everything is inviting us to pause, breathe, and settle into stillness.

Just like the lakes freeze into stillness, we’re meant to slow down, too. To observe. To restore. To thrive in the silent spaces between seasons. ✨

Rest when you need it. Honor that pull to go inward.
Because—believe it or not—summer is already halfway here. ☀️💦

And I, for one, am so excited. I’ve been quietly planning, dreaming, and building what’s next for Nepenthe SUP and for our beautiful Lake County community. Big things are coming… new experiences, new classes, new ways to reconnect with nature and yourself on the water. 🌊✨

45 years and still amazing as ever! 👌 👏 😍

Today marks 45 years since we opened our doors in Lake Villa!

On January 20, 1981, our parents chose this community to build a business, raise their four daughters, and create a place grounded in hard work, kindness, and good food. Lake Villa didn’t just become where we worked — it became home.

This morning reminded us why this place matters so deeply. Familiar faces, new faces, shared smiles, and quiet moments over cinnamon rolls and coffee — these are the memories that have shaped us for 45 years.

We’re especially grateful to Mayor James McDonald for stopping by with balloons and celebrating alongside us. And as part of our cinnamon roll giveaway, it felt important to recognize others who help make Lake Villa what it is — long-standing local businesses like Nielsen Enterprises, First American Bank, and State Bank of the Lakes, essential community services like the Lake Villa Police Department, and newer organizations such as Shining Abilities, whose mission is already becoming part of this community’s story.

Thank you for showing up, for supporting us, and for allowing us to be part of your lives for 45 years.

A rapidly strengthening storm system will whip up the Great Lakes on Monday, bringing powerful winds and extreme wave heights. Open-water waves are expected to reach 25–30 feet, with Lake Superior potentially seeing waves over 30 feet.

All summer long, Waterford Lake is my place of peace when im on my board.
Now it’s my son’s turn to be in his element 🏒❄️

When winter settles in, our lake transforms into his personal hockey rink. Watching him skate out there...confident, joyful, completely at home...feels like the perfect reminder that nature meets us where we are, in every season.

Water flows, ice forms, seasons change… but the connection remains.
