On March 18, 2026, the Delta State University Speech & Hearing Sciences Department welcomed Holly Wade, M.S., CCC-SLP, from Southeast Rehab Hospital, in Lake Village , Arkansas.
She demonstrated the use of Fiberoptic Endoscopic Examination of Swallowing (FEES) to the Speech Science class and the Neurogenics class. During her presentation and demonstration, she highlighted how the endoscope (a tube with a light and a tiny camera attached) is inserted through the patient’s nose to access the patient’s pharynx to visualize the laryngeal structures. Using Dr. Magee as her “patient”, she explained the anatomy the students were seeing on the screen and then conducted a swallowing evaluation using various mediums given to the “patient” to swallow. A student volunteer was also scoped, which allowed the students in attendance to visualize the structure and function of two different larynxes.
