Turtles for Kylie is part of the Love Like Kylie Program ran through The Kylie Rowand Foundation. We mail out and deliver care packages to Pediatric Cancer Patients. The Turtles for Kylie Project began as a way for me to honor Kylie Rowand a precious little girl from our community who lost her long battle with Stage 4 Neuroblastoma on February 7, 2015. Kylie was such an inspiration to me and to many throughout the world. She was happy and brave and fought so very hard....and she loved turtles. One of my favorite videos of her is her saying Tur-tle. I only knew Kylie from her FB page. I never got to meet Kylie before she went to heaven. But I prayed for her daily, fund raised for her and followed her mommy's post on FB. I felt like I knew her and I was determined that she would not be forgotten. I became educated about childhood cancer through Kylie's FB page and then through other children's whose pages I found from hers. It was like a tree with many branches and leaves. One child lead to another and I soon discovered just how many children there are that are struggling with Childhood Cancer, relapsing from it or having secondary cancer's from their treatments. I became determined to make a difference by bringing a little happiness to those children fighting for their lives, to educate people about childhood cancer and how little funding really is going to childhood cancer research, to raise money for specific childhood cancer trials and to make sure that Kylie is never forgotten. And thus the care package program "Turtles for Kylie" began. With help from my daughter, April and granddaughter, Hailey we created fun things for gift bags, I bought toys, stuffed animals, craft kits, etc. and we delivered gift bags and mailed out care packages all over the U.S. The joy we have seen on the children's faces when they open their care packages is priceless. To be able to bring a smile to their face means everything to me. In June, Kylie's Mommy Bree contacted me and asked if I would like to team up with The Kylie Rowand Foundation and send out our Turtles for Kylie care packages through their Kylie Rowand Foundation's - "Love Like Kylie Program". Of course I said yes immediately. I am excited for the future and believe that together we will do many wonderful things for the world of Childhood Cancer. I hope someday that our care package program has to be retired because their are no more kids suffering from cancer.
