What a privilege and honor it is to hike a 14er with my Dad!
My dad came to me earlier this year saying that he wanted to do a 14er. He moved here are few years ago and decided this was a goal of his. So, to hike Quandary, he began training and hiking at least weekly.
We organized a trip to Breck and did this together! While hiking with him, I kept thinking about the example he is setting.
Here he is, in his 7th decade of life, climbing about 14,000 feet and a great pace. THIS. IS. THE. GOAL. Being able to do things AND do hard things if you want to as you age.
I want to move and to be comfortable and strong in my body so that I too can climb a 14er with Siobhan. And hopefully in the near future, Siobhan, my dad, and myself can all hike one together.
And this is what prevention, rehab, strengthening, training, and putting yourself first with physical activity is all about. It's about proving to yourself you can do hard things and then having the opportunity to share it with someone you care about.
