Happy World Occupational Therapy Day!

It is every year on October 27th – though celebrations often span the entire month of October!

During World Occupational Therapy Day we celebrate the amazing Occupational Therapists who make a difference every day. Special shoutout to Josie, Celia, Kristin, Lauren, and Suzanne, and all the other incredible OTs who have been a part of MMG! 🌟 Your dedication, passion, and hard work make a lasting impact on the lives of so many. 🙌

2025 Theme: "Occupational Therapy in Action" – showcasing how OTs, like the ones at MMG, help people engage in meaningful activities that improve their health and well-being.

🎃 Halloween Ball Walk Activity at MMG! 👻

This week we’re giving the classic Ball Walk a festive twist! Kids guide a ball along colorful taped pathways on the wall, rolling it from one Halloween image to its match on the opposite side.

🧡Why We Love It

This activity—adapted from Tools to Grow—targets several important therapy skills:
-Enhances bilateral coordination by engaging both sides of the body.
-Strengthens visual-motor integration, sequencing, and planning.
-Builds core strength, timing, and body awareness as kids control the ball’s movement.
-Promotes engagement and motivation through a fun, seasonal theme!

🖤 How We Set It Up at MMG

-Color-coded tape connects matching Halloween pictures
-Clients use a small ball to follow the taped path from one side to the other.
-We vary the challenge by changing ball size, speed, or hand use—sometimes even timing the walk or having kids pause at checkpoints!

-Bilateral coordination & upper-body motor control
-Visual tracking and guiding motion
-Motor planning and sequencing
-Core and arm strengthening
-Attention, regulation, and following directions

A big shout out to our friends at Sundance Circle Hippotherapy for joining MMGs Trunk or Treat!! Penny the Pony (unicorn) was a favorite!! 🦄

Sundance provides physical, occupational, and speech therapy through hippotherapy and other equine-assisted programs. Their services include one-on-one therapy sessions in a covered arena using specially trained horses. They also offer outdoor therapy and seasonal social groups.
