Relationships & the Gift of Saying It While We Can:

🗓️This week, I attended a party unlike any other — a 🎉Celebration of Life 🎉planned entirely by my patient… for herself. She had passed in July, but weeks earlier, she had chosen the menu, the location, and the bar selection. 🍾

🌟She was a brilliant, caring, revolutionary soul. Even after receiving an unexpected diagnosis, she was healthy enough in her final weeks to read about how to have a “good death” and seek wisdom from those around her. I hope she found the peace she was seeking.

🎓This individual was academically inclined and a scholar. She intimidated me and I knew I always had to be prepared for whatever was on her list during appointments. You can imagine how overwhelmed I was as EVERY person I met (not even an exaggeration) already knew who I was — because she had spoken of me so often, and with such esteem. Some even shared that she loved me. It is deeply humbling, and it made me wish I’d known the depth of her appreciation while she was still here.

🗣️Here’s the lesson she left me: don’t wait to tell people how much they matter. Let them stand a little taller today, knowing the impact they’ve had on your life.

I love supporting others and acknowledging the ‘not fairs’, ‘not rights’, and things that shouldn’t be happening in their lives. They are absolutely right. Thank you to for the cards. You may not have intended them for grief, but what a beautiful invitation 💚

Sending a card to a patient who received an unexpected diagnosis with a very short life expectancy. Sometimes it’s difficult to find the right words to show support and presence. True story- I used to be very intimidated by them because they are brilliant and I struggle(d) with imposter syndrome, but they chose me and kept choosing me to be their doctor.

Adding this to the top of my list of books to buy! There js important healing work that can occur in the process of dying if we allow it to. The type that leads to generational healing on earth and spiritual healing for our next stage of being. 🌬️
