What's something you've let go of because, when all is said and done, it doesn't really matter? 🎈🎈🎈

One caregiver shared: "I let everything go. I have to because, 1) It doesn't matter in the grand scheme of things, and 2) In the long run it's better for my overall health and wellbeing."

Things I've learned today as I am posting for FASD Awareness Day 2024:
> I really LOVE creating digital media and posting content! This is fun!
> I forgot how to post my digital media creations in the right order so they make sense.
> I don't remember the passwords to access my various social media accounts.
> I want to change the name of my page and can't figure out how to.
> I can't find the calendar to schedule posts from Canva. Where did it go? It was there last year!
> Lots of things have changed in the how-to post and link areas. With every update, and there are too many updates, things change. I have many other things in life that need my attention. I want to be able to streamline the posting process. Not spend all day learning the updates
> If I get into doing this again, full-time, I will need to switch from my MacBook to a real desktop monitor...this screen is too small! 😉

Here's a thought - instead of giving unsolicited advice (because trust me, it's probably already been tried) why not ask parents, caregivers and individuals with FASD what they need and provide that or find a way to help them access what they need.

Let's offer support instead of judgement. Who's with me?

Still hear caregivers being given the "You just need a sticker chart" spiel. 🤦‍♂️🤦‍♀️

Got any good comebacks to share?

Supporting caregivers in their pursuit of ongoing medical care for their adult children is vital.
*
Please join me in supporting my friend and fellow FASD Awareness Advocate in her tireless efforts to advocate for her grandson's life.
*
Our children born with brain based disabilities often need lifelong supports in one or more areas of their lives.
Our children's disabilities do not magically go away when they turn 18 years old.
*
I'm proud of all the work this amazing woman does for her family.

Thank you for sharing this message of hope for change in Ohio.

What I mean by you can't convince someone with FASD that their thinking is off, because their thinking is off, isn't that they can't think, it's that accessing what they know, when they need it doesn't always fit our expectations or timeline.

Adjusting our expectations to match their ability in that moment, giving time to respond or complete a task, using less words, modeling decision making, providing accommodations and support as needed can help.
