I have been working through a Women’s Mental Health Specialist certification and the dearth of information on women’s reproductive trauma experiences is staggering. Today’s session concentrates on perinatal loss. Chances are, we all know many people who have dealt with this possibly even silently over our lifetimes. The complexities of women’s experiences are limitless. Today was a good reminder to be kind to others and be open to deepening our own understanding through ongoing learning and awareness. ♥️

In 2003, I got my career started in mental health with an internship in which I was trained and certified in the SAAPC program. The program provides free counseling and advocacy for anyone affected by sexual abuse, harassment, and assault. I continued on after the time of my internship ending as a volunteer sexual assault hotline call responder. Sexual assault, domestic violence, and abuse issues have become a core piece of the work I believe in deeply. Today, here’s a shared post providing statistics and research correlated directly to the impact on mental health related to intimate partner abuse and stalking/cyberstalking. Know the signs and get help. Help others get help. And as always, believe someone when they are telling you that they are afraid, and resist passing judgment on others who stay in these dynamics out of fear. Please reach out locally to if you would like to become a volunteer with this excellent organization!

I sometimes work with clients who are recovering from severe relational abuse where their sense of reality is distorted by a disordered individual. When they have done the work to set boundaries and separate from this person, then the next shoe drops and they find themselves a victim of an all-out smear campaign. It’s important to remember that when the abuser loses their ability to control you, they are feeling their power over you dwindle, so they try to control how others see you. This means you are doing something right. Trying to defend yourself against false accusations and character assassination is a trap-a trap to keep you connected to an emotional vampire. Remember that their constant criticisms and attacks are merely a confession of how they feel about themselves inside and move on with your day. Be strong. You know who you are. It’s a wild, wild world out there, but you’ve got this! 💪🏼 ❤️

Addiction is difficult but a reality for many. I am so grateful for people like Cameron Romer who bravely share their story to help others. Please listen!

Today Cameron continues to share her story of loving her big brother Bryce and devastatingly losing him to his disease.
Cameron shares the progression of the disease and the struggle to balance being a sister and a social worker.
I understand hearing the story of someone losing their loved one to the disease of addiction is sorrowful. This part of the story must also be shared when we speak about addiction being a progressive, chronic, and potentially fatal disease.
Cameron's courage to tell her story shines a vital light on the lack of support for siblings in the disease and with their grief.

I love this office and it’s welcoming mood that allows me to hold space for my clients. If you know anyone in need of a listening ear, please direct them to april@fiftytwentywellness.com. Now accepting clients in the following specialties: individual wellness, business and professional coaching, and divorce/separation support. Leah Zubik / BLOOM Coach did a fantastic job staging this space! 😍🥰

It's all in the details...we often say that, but it really is. Having extra tiny details takes a room or space from being nice to having a wow factor every time you step into it. This office, used by , speaks to clients in every detail from the handmade pottery hanging on the walls to the antique binoculars, to the cactus plants and quill pen. Every piece is carefully thought out and curated to bring a feeling of belonging and warmth. put her heart and soul into this design and everyone who enters this room feels it. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

“Start where you are, use what you have, do what you can.” -Arthur Ashe. I have never enjoyed pictures of myself but wanted to take the time to, well, introduce myself. My name is April Leaman. I have volunteered or worked in mental health and counseling since 2003 during my undergraduate program in psychology. I am passionate about many things but these specifically stand out for me: 1) learning to trust your inner voice and following where it leads 2) doing the most right thing even when surrounded by unkindness and 3) staying calm and holding space for others even when the world around you seems as if it is on fire. This is why I felt I needed to create I am so very thankful for my inner circle who supported my big dreams when they were just dreams. and especially to who sparked the idea last year that this could even be a reality. And to Susanne Umiker-Spurlock who told me after our first meeting, “Honey, just do it!” Make today the day you start to embrace your dreams with arms open wide.
