I’m embarrassed to admit this… I’ve averaged just one workout per week for the past three months.
That’s not the standard I expect from myself. And as someone leading a health and fitness company, it’s tough to say out loud.
Last night, on a call with some of our clients, we reflected on our struggles and wins from the first quarter of the year. When it was my turn to share, I had to be real: my biggest struggle has been consistency in the gym.
Definitely felt some imposter syndrome.
I’ve had every excuse – work, fatigue, not enough time. But when I said out loud, “I’m going to get a workout in tomorrow morning,” something shifted.
This morning, I followed through. Not because I suddenly had more time or because life got less busy. But because I called myself out, made a plan, and leaned into accountability.
No surprise, the weights felt heavy and awkward. I stuck with 135 lb on deadlifts for all my working sets, which is normally just my super light first warm-up set weight.
But the win wasn’t about how strong I felt – it was about showing up, following through, and building momentum.
Here’s what I’ve been reminded of through this:
1) Accountability is HUGE. Surround yourself with people who will challenge you, support you, and call out your excuses. There’s something exciting and powerful about making commitments out loud.
2) Balance grace with discipline. Most of us know when we’re full of 💩 versus when life genuinely gets in the way of our best intentions. It’s not about being perfect – it’s about consistently showing up and improving over time.
3) Structure creates success. I know evening workouts don’t work for me. By the end of the day, I’m drained, and I don’t follow through. So I’m setting up my schedule to work WITH me, not AGAINST me. Morning workouts are the way forward.
If you’ve been struggling with consistency, ask yourself this: Do you have real accountability in your life? Are you being too hard or too easy on yourself? Have you structured your life to support your goals?
This morning, I showed up for myself. And I’m going to keep showing up.
Now it’s your turn. What’s one thing you’re committing to today?
