🎉 Our Kidney Transplant Program Just Turned 30! 🎉

Thirty years ago, Manning Family Children’s performed our very first kidney transplant—giving young patient Benjamin Breaux a brand-new start. Since then, our incredible team has performed more than 250 kidney transplants, helping kids across Louisiana and the Gulf South live fuller, healthier lives.

We celebrated this milestone with a birthday-themed bash honoring our multidisciplinary transplant team: a group of physicians, nurses, dietitians, pharmacists, and social workers who make extraordinary care possible every single day. Led by Dr. Diego Aviles, our Organ Transplant team continues to provide hope and healing for children and families facing kidney disease.

Happy National Physical Therapy Month to our incredible physical therapy teams from Main Campus, Metairie Clinic, and the Northshore! Our Physical Therapy Department provides evaluation and therapy services for children and adolescents with disabilities and impairments in order to improve all areas of gross motor function.

The basis of pediatric physical therapy (PT) lies in understanding how a child’s motor performance develops and how it is related to the child’s cognitive development. PT services focus on minimizing the effect of injuries, disease or developmental disabilities on a child’s ability to function. Yesterday was a truly special day at Manning Family Children’s! 💛 Our leaders came together for a strategic planning retreat filled with inspiration, connection, and big ideas for the future of our hospital.

We were so grateful to welcome entrepreneur, endurance athlete, and New York Times best-selling author Jesse Itzler for an inspiring keynote address. Jesse shared his incredible journey and spoke about the power of a positive mindset, strong relationships, and living each day with purpose and heart. He also spent time visiting with some of our amazing patients and families—creating moments we won’t soon forget!

Thank you, Jesse, for reminding us that building meaningful connections and leading a soulful life with urgency, together we can and will achieve our most ambitious goals within and beyond our hospital walls. 💪

As National Respiratory Care Week comes to a close, we’re celebrating the incredible team behind Louisiana’s only Ventilator Assisted Care Program (VACP) here at Manning Family Children’s! 💙

This multidisciplinary team of nurses, social workers, respiratory therapists, and educators provides life-changing support to children and young adults who rely on ventilators and other respiratory technologies. Through training, home visits, and 24/7 coordination, they help families build independence and stability, improving outcomes and quality of life across our state.
