Dear NAPO/ICD community, On December 5, 2019 my assistant Tonia Owen lost everything in a house fire. Luckily, she and her husband, Pastor Phil, made it out safely, their belongings, however, were all lost. Pictures, videos, family heirlooms, ALL GONE! Even though most of us deal with “stuff” almost every day, times like these remind us that life is not about the stuff. It’s about making memories, loving and supporting each other and staying healthy and happy for as long as you can. In light of this incident, I would like to remind us all, especially in the Christmas season, that “things” and “stuff” can be gone in the blink of an eye. It is important to stress the importance of accumulating memories instead of material possessions. The community, friends and family of my assistant have come together to support them in this sorrow-filled time. Their hearts are overflowing with support! This giving season think about gifting smoke detectors and other protectionary devices for Christmas gifts. They may not seem flashy or cool, but they can save a life or a home. Also, the gift of digitizing services can protect videos and photographs from devastation. Hiring an Organizer to help with creating an inventory might be perfect. Trying to remember all the stuff you owned for the insurance company can be a very stressful task! Any word on when the new ICD guide for POs will be coming out?
This looks like fun .
Just checking in to see who is coming in early for the conference?
Hi all POs I need some advice: I am working with a client who works at a hospital. She runs some grant-funded programs and will be retiring soon. I'm helping her get all of her files in order before she does. She is paying me as a personal consultant though we are working on company time. We need to organize her digital computer files (re-label, reorganize, etc.) that are saved in a company server, but I am trying to figure out a way to do this task without me tying-up her computer or her needing to sit with me the whole time. Any suggestions on how to do this securely?
Congratulations Christina Barnett of APDO! She is ICD's winner of a 1-yr subscribership. Welcome Christina. We can't wait for you to begin enjoying ICD's wonderful education.

Description: It often happens that we’re called by a potential client and asked to help clean out and organize their hoarded-up home. This person labels themselves a hoarder. The more they talk and answer your intake questions the more you may think to yourself that they probably do have a problem with hoarding. However, once you arrive and begin working with this client you come to think that the hoard may be the result of something else. In this class, I will review several case studies that initially presented as hoarding behavior. A few of these cases turned out to be something else, others were truly hoarding disorder. Let’s talk about them!

The recent distinction between Hoarding Disorder (HD) and Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder (OCD) has ignited the interests of researchers who seek to discover the neurobiological mechanisms behind HD. Findings show that HD is associated with brain abnormalities distinct from OCD, such as significantly different anterior cingulate cortices and precentral and superior frontal gyri. HD is associated with deficits in executive functioning, attention, and memory. This presentation will discuss the most recent neuropsychological findings of HD and how they will impact the future treatment of this disorder. You will understand what cognitive deficits people with HD experience and what strategies are effective in working with these deficits.
