Happy Holidays? It’s stressful enough as it is. Here are some tips to keep your life in peace:

Identify your needs & values

This will help you learn about yourself, what makes you happy/sad/angry and what you can’t tolerate.

Express how you feel

Letting people know how you are feeling is the first step towards protecting your space and setting ground rules.

The Art of Saying No

It’s important to remember that you can and should be able to say “no”, without any explanation. If someone asks you a favor, you have the option to decline.

You can create your own outcomes by putting your boundaries up and recognizing your feelings. It’s not selfish it’s self-care.

Happy Holidays! Have a safe and joyful season!

How are negative emotions useful?

They tell us what’s important, what we care about, what we like, what we don’t like, what we are afraid of and what we want to get rid of.

Here are Five more basic ways in which negative emotions are useful:

1. They help us get clear about our values.

2. The help us make decisions.

3. They give us energy and motivation.

4. They help us understand other people and, therefore, to behave in better ways.

5. They help us let go of toxic situations.

Negative thinking can make us depressed. Some of us pay much more attention to negatives than to positives. Or we "catastrophize" minor setbacks into major ones.
Or we make a sane statement to ourselves like "I'm really depressed over my break-up with _________" and then follow it up with an insane statement like "I'll never find anyone to love again. I might as well give up."

Sometimes this negative thinking becomes automatic and takes on a life of its own.

Al Galves is a psychologist who can teach you how to become aware of how you are using your thoughts, learn about yourself from that awareness, and learn how to manage your thoughts so they help you instead of hurt you.

Through reading his book "Harness Your Dark Side: Mastering Jealousy, Rage, Frustration and Other Negative Emotions," you can develop the skills needed to take more control over your thought process. Visit algalves.com for more info.

Check in on how you feel.
Emotions and how you feel are valid, beneficial and potentially useful. They tell you what is important to you and what you need to do in order to live more the way you want to live. If you want to "check in," take the following steps:

Experience them. Let them in and let them work on you.

Learn from them. What are they telling you?

Take action based on them. If you decide not to take action, find a way of using the energy in them that is helpful to you and/or others.

Checking in with your emotions is a good practice to help you get to know what is going on inside. It helps to work through your feelings and emotions to de-stress and find well-being. And you may get to know yourself better.🙂

Emotions.

Emotions all of them - including the negative ones like anger, jealousy, fear, sadness, guilt and anxiety - are good things. They are very useful.

1. Emotions are teachers.
They tell you what is important.

2. Emotions are natural indicators that just come over us. They are part of our nature.

3. Use the messages and energy of our emotions to bring about a good outcome.

4. All emotions are valid and useful. We have a choice in how we experience them, express them and learn from them.

Pay attention to your emotions. They can help us navigate through life.

Let’s have a great 2023!

Go into the new year with a stress management plan.

Stress Management Action Plan Part 1:

First, ask yourself these questions:
1. What is keeping me from my ability to love, express myself and grow in the way I want to?
2. What can I do about it?
3. What obstacles will I need to overcome - including obstacles in myself?
4. What resources are available to help me with what I want to do?
5. What is my plan of action?
6. What methods of stress management can I use in my action plan? (I will post ways to manage stress in part 2)
