Tool Up FOR NEW-AGE Elk HUNTING article featuring DVD By
RALPH RAMOS
Author Ralph Ramos believes two heads are better than one when it comes to elk hunting. He prefers setting a designated shooter 75 to 100 yards ahead of the caller, who hangs back to coax the bull forward. This way, a “hung-up” bull will still be within range of the shooter. Triathlon fanatic Jay Jarden capitalized on this New Mexico opportunity after the author called in a 360-inch bull for a 30-yard shot. Ek-hunting with aggressive run-and-gun tactics is Jarden’s preferred method, as he trains year-round to be physically prepared for a demanding hunt.
Author Ralph Ramos teamed up with Bow-hunting Hall of Fame Legend and PSE Archery founder Pete Shepley on this New Mexico hunt.
Team effort, pressuring this herd bull with cow calls for a mile as he moved cows to their bedding zone, sealed the deal for Shepley.
Todd Loddwick, a U.S. Nordic combined silver medalist, put the hammer down on this New Mexico bull. The Steamboal Springs, Colorado, resident put outfitter guide Ramos to the test, a world-class athlete with remarkable endurance, power, and, of course, an exceptional archer!
