Neuroscience shows that relational hurt (i.e. social rejection, neglect, criticism, abandonment) activates areas of the brain that also process physical pain. Like physical wounds, emotional ones require care and attention to address inflammation and sensitivity — sitting with your feelings and feeling them in the safety of your body.

Notice if your reactions aren’t wholeheartedly reflecting the present, tend to what’s going on within, and connect with your inner sun to guide your way forward ✨

As of the Summer Solstice, we reached more than 70% towards our minimum goal target for mutual aid! Closer to gifting 5+ therapy sessions to an individual in need 🙏🏼✨

What goes into the fund is 1% of my income and donations from the 108 Sun Salutations event.

This is my fourth round of 108 🌞 greetings. Maraming salamat, magandang loob, for showing up and flowing with me 🤎 grateful for your presence. We started with safety guidelines then concluded with closing reflections while snacking on Da Zao (red dates) to nourish the heart.

Kind souls are always welcome to join!

Looking to challenge yourself in a safe space? Embody what it means to move through the cycles on the mat and in your life with 108 Sun Salutations, in Sanskrit (an ancient, classical language of India), Surya Namaskar 🪷

The next one will be for the Autumn Equinox — Monday, September 22nd at 8:15 AM.

Let’s flow together ☀️🌱

In Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM), it is believed that we are born with a finite amount of Kidney Essence: the foundation for growth, development, reproduction, and the aging process. Mindful movement practices like Yin Yoga, Tai Chi, and Qi Gong help to nourish the body, enrich the mind, and consolidate the spirit so you can preserve your vital essence ✨ What nourishes your soul?

Academics, physical exercise, and yoga (a science of the mind) taught me self-discipline and the meaning of delayed gratification. What went into my work was a self-funded education, internships (including unpaid), and balancing multiple jobs while living paycheck to paycheck as I built it from the ground up (thank you to the people who have been here before I became a licensed therapist). I come from an immigrant household, a college savings wasn’t quite the priority, survival and adjusting to a new country were. Yoga teaches me that inner resources are abundant when we draw energy from within so while circumstances may not be ideal, we have the tools to adjust the way we show up and approach life challenges 🪷 In case no one told you this yet, YOU ARE WORTHY OF ALL THE GOOD THINGS and to receive nourishment 🤎✨ even with the current state of the world and in all your seasons/cycles.

As of the Spring Equinox, we reached more than 20% towards our minimum goal target! Getting closer to gifting at least 5 therapy sessions for an individual in need 🙏🏼✨

Here are our community guidelines that we returned to during the practice. As participants settled into shavasana, I played a Tibetan singing bowl (tuned to the note F) over their heart chakra. I shared my favorite ritual oil and herbal snacks — Blue Lotus Moringa, Da Zao (jujubes), Hu Tao Ren (walnuts), and Gou Qi Zi (wolfberry fruit or goji berries) as we held space for closing reflections.

Blue Lotus has roots in ancient Egyptian culture. It is associated with the cycle of death and rebirth — the beginning of light. Da Zao in Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) is known for ‘nourishing the blood’ and ‘calming the spirit.’ As an adaptogenic herb, it promotes emotional balance and stress management (beneficial for menstrual cycles and postpartum recovery). Hu Tao Ren ‘strengthens the sinews/bones’ and ‘replenishes Jing or Essence’ (supportive for virility). I think of jujubes and walnuts as a balance between Yin and Yang principles ☯️ Gou Qi Zi ‘moistens the lungs’ and maintains energy/vitality (great for heart health and athletic performance).

To maintain privacy, faces are covered and group photos are sent to each participant. Please share in the way that helps you feel most secure 🌻

Prana is a Sanskrit word. Ayurveda and Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) share similar ancient roots. In TCM, there are ‘5 Fundamental Substances’ in the body — Qi (life force with historical implications* as the Chinese worldview differs), Xue (blood), Jing (essence), Shen (spirit), and Jin Ye (body fluids). Jing, Qi, and Shen are considered the ‘3 Treasures’ vital to our overall well-being. Shen is the spiritual manifestation of Jing — the potential made real.

How can we nurture this dynamic property, essence, and spirit to reflect our wholeness? With intention.

“Historically, Qi has been as much an attribute of a rock or river as of a person or animal.” (The Web that Has No Weaver, p. 70)*

Your body is intelligent, there’s an inner guidance system — a capacity to know your worth. Spend time IN the body and feel what you’re going through (rather than overthinking or ruminating). Easier said than done because practice and repetition are key. The more you spend quality time listening to the sound and flow of your breath, connecting to your 5 senses (sight, touch, sound, smell, & taste), being present, and finding opportunities for understanding — somatic wisdom naturally becomes a guiding light.

*Soft launch of ’s Mutual Aid Program for Mental Health Services. Starting the Spring Equinox, I’m pledging 1% of my income and at least 35% of the proceeds from donation-based events to the program.

✨Support our first donation-based event✨ to kickstart the program, 100% of the proceeds from this event is going towards opening a HYSA (high-yield savings account). After reaching a targeted goal ($600-$1200), I plan to collaborate with a nonprofit to allocate funds for an individual in need (gifting 5-10 therapy sessions). Click the link in bio to RSVP/get your tickets — location will be shared via email and a confirmation text will be sent the day before.

I still don’t get the algorithm 🫠 please like and share the post to spread the word! Thank you for your support 🙏🏼🤍

The Spring Equinox (the first day of Spring) is Thursday, March 20th, when the days start getting longer and we get more sun 🌻 108 Sun Salutations is a yogic practice traditionally done during seasonal changes. Ancient yogis believed the number represents wholeness in existence, there are 108 ‘sacred sites’ in the body, and 108 energetic lines connect to form the heart chakra 🪷

By acknowledging the sacredness in all of existence, may we remember the sacred within and help others remember too.

Just as a gardener tends to the changes of a landscape proactively responding to environmental shifts in nature, we too can make the needed adjustments for the kind of scenery that helps us see the growth and beauty around us 🪷 being alive gifts us the ability to change and evolve ~

Symbolism of the Snake includes transformation and shedding the old for a rebirth — reflection, self-discovery (of personal values and healthy boundaries), and the wisdom to discern between what you can and cannot change. With mindfulness, you can change your mind as needed to support your healing journey.

Stability and strong roots are the resources needed to withstand storms. When you establish a system of refuge and safety that you can return to, trust is cultivated in yourself and others. As you familiarize yourself with the feeling of safety, you can intuit your place in the world with intention.

I applied and was accepted to Wongu University of Oriental Medicine in 2016 but later decided to pursue clinical psychotherapy. I told myself when choosing UNLV’s program that if I still feel a pull towards acupuncture, I’d go for it. So here I am, the second time around, with a renewed perspective yet still with the same yearning to learn this ancient healing art and how it can complement the new age of science. I’m all for coexisting, treading the middle path, and finding beauty within the grey areas.

I’m in the last year of post-grad internship and at the home stretch of becoming fully licensed as a therapist. It truly is a lifelong journey. Looking forward to addressing psychosomatic symptoms with acupuncture and herbology in addition to holistic psychotherapy as an integrative mental health provider (future OMD/LCPC)! Excited and nervous for the road ahead 🦋✨
