Sometimes things are just better left unsaid.

Too often we jump quickly at sharing our piece when it’s not the right time or when we are fueled by underlying motives.

Being our best self is a moment to moment practice and process for the rest of our lives. Some days we take strides, some days we backtrack and perhaps even fall.

We rise again and again, and having support and inspiration along the way makes the world of difference.

It is National Su***de Prevention month, but we need to be raising awareness every single day. Su***de is not an easy topic but is so important to talk about.

It is one of the leading causes of death in the United States.

Su***de is preventable… Everyone can help by learning about risk factors, warning signs, promoting prevention and resilience, committing to social change and learning how to get support or offer support in a crisis .

National Alliance on Mental Health Shared Facts:

💜 75% of all people who die by su***de are male.

💜 Although more women than men attempt su***de, men are nearly 4x more likely to die by su***de.

💜 Su***de is the second leading cause of death for people ages 10-34 and the fourth leading cause of death for people 35-54.

💜 The overall su***de rate in the U.S. has increased by 31% since 2001.

💜 46% of people who die by su***de had a diagnosed mental health condition.

💜 While half of individuals who die by su***de have a diagnosed mental health condition, research shows that 90% experienced symptoms.

💜 American Indian/Alaska Native adults die by su***de at a rate 20% higher than non-Hispanic white adults.

💜 Le***an, gay and bisexual youth are four times more likely to attempt su***de than straight youth.

💜 Transgender people are 12 times more likely to attempt su***de than the general population.

💜 10% of young adults say they experienced suicidal thoughts in the past year.

Grateful heart here.

Gratitude gets me through the toughest of moments. And also keeps me humble, easily pleased and amused.

How many times have you overlooked the little things, the necessities and the luxuries you have?

If you really think about it… or need some help realizing all of the things you may have and perhaps take for granted…

hot water, running water, a bathtub or shower, an oven, microwave, tv, internet, Netflix, cellphones, ears, eyes, a nose that smells and a tongue that tastes, 10 fingers and 10 toes, education, employment, income, dining out, food to eat, utensils, clean water to drink, family and friends, a vehicle, Uber, public transportation, parks, lakes, the ocean, blooming flowers, good health and health insurance, to receive help and help others, blankets, a bed, a refrigerator and freezer, a roof over your head…

I could go on and on. And I’m sure after I hit post I will think of soooo many other things that k should have added to this list (feel free to share some in the comments 😉)

Sometimes we just gotta stop what we are doing and “just be”.

There is grace and simplicity that we often overlook and take for granted.

Our breath is such a gift to help us regulate and feel at peace, regardless of what’s going on around us.

We are all guilty of joining the rat race of life, going, going and going, when the destination is purely in the present. We miss so many beautiful moments by being caught in the future, the what-ifs and the past.

I dare you to slow down. Let go. Take a few breaths here and there, and allow yourself to just be here, now.

Open your heart to your five senses, nature, Spirit. Pause and trust that the universe still goes on and things will be okay if you take a mental, emotional and physical break to soothe your Soul and practice living.

Could you be taking better care of your Self? Most likely your answer is “YES”.

We can always take better care of ourselves. The list goes on and on of all the ways we can feed our mind, body and soul the nourishment and love it needs and deserves.

Here is a simple checklist of some ways you can fill your cup.

And some other ideas…

💌 talk to your self like you would a dear friend

💌 forgive yourself

💌 let go of grudges

💌 take yourself out for a special treat

💌 say some positive affirmations

💌 take steps towards a dream or goal

💌 dance, sing, laugh

💌 sunbathe

💌 take some vitamins

💌 play and be silly

I dare you to take better care of your Self today, and then do it again tomorrow, and so on. 😉

A quick check-in with ya’ll and one with myself. Perhaps a little nudge and motivation lays within this message too… 😉

The truth is, life gets busy and we become consumed. Try slowing down and checking out to check-in.

It feels good to have someone check-in on you. I’m so thankful for those people in my life that do that for me. I do my best to check-in with others and show presence. At least I try to make it clear that I am always an open door for those in need of a friend and sincere ear.

I dare you to reach out to your friends and family and see how they are doing and ask if there’s anything you can help with. Often times it’s just the check-in that makes the world of difference in someone’s life.

And I dare you to check-in with your self too. Ask yourself what you need and what you want. What’s making you happy and what’s causing distress. How can you fill your cup?!?
