This is why I'm in Shreveport, Louisiana:
I'm acting in another independent horror movie. Who even am I? This new phase of my life still seems so unreal.
I am playing the role of "Warden Gamma" in The Apex Predators Club Movie under the Mahal Empire Productions company, written and directed by Jason Horton.
This is my fourth movie with this production company, my first time working with Jason. Sadly, it will be the final Mahal movie.
We lost Michael MahalEmpire very suddenly and unexpectedly earlier this year. He was only 39 years old. We are devastated, especially for the loss to his family. His brother Sonny was with him in his final moments, and thankfully they have a very large, loving and supportive family. We love you Sonny and we are so so sorry for this deep loss. I'm so glad you are here with us.
Michael was not only our producer and director, he was also a friend, mentor, supporter, encourager, coach, and just all around big funny teddy bear sweetheart of a guy. He really enjoyed giving so many actors opportunities, and elevating them in those possibilities. I never experienced anything but kindness, mutual support, respect, fun and camaraderie on his sets. He fostered so many wonderful friendships by the way he ran his sets. I loved working with him. He loved gathering us up for a special occasions and wrap parties. He never let us pay for anything. He was generous with his love and gratitude.
In the last movie I did with them, we had a funny little moment during the filming of the FINAL SCENE of the movie Alien Horde, in a nightclub on Hollywood Boulevard in Los Angeles. It was in that moment I realized the significance of my part, standing there and having dialogue with all the leads in the movie. I was in that scene! What?! For real?!! I went up to Michael incredulously, and said, "Oh my gosh, you really did give me a good part???!!!!" I was besides myself with excitement. He said, "I told you ( and he made a funny face ) ... you deserve it!!" I will always cherish that precious moment. Thank you Michael for seeing me, for the validation, for the opportunities. You changed my life. I love you. This was never on the vision board, and you made me want to keep going. He also spoke about having me over to the house to meet his parents, doctors, because he just knew we would hit it off and have so much to talk about. What an honor to be extended such an invitation. We all know how wonderfully supportive their parents have always been to them, because they spoke of it often. We should all be so fortunate.
Because I believed in Michael and Sonny so much, and appreciated the way they treated me and others, I became Co-, Line, and Executive Producer on his last two movies. I will always cherish the last words he said to me, "You are part of our production team, and I appreciate you. I love working with you." I will always hold that close to my heart. He also spoke about bringing me more and more into the behind the scenes process, and elevating me as an actress and producer. I am so grateful for what he saw in me, but mostly for his pure kindness.
We were supposed to film Apex in July in LA. Filming was delayed for obvious reasons. We feel for Jason too, because we understand the deep loss of such a close working relationship and friendship. We have all collectively vowed to make the best Mahal movie ever, in tribute to Michael himself. It won't be the same without him, but, we will operate in the highest spirit of kindness, respect, joy and commitment honoring him.
I've heard nothing but wonderful things about this set. Today was day number 11 of filming. My role is coming in on the back end. I'm already getting so much great feedback. I am so appreciative of my dear friend Dave Souza for all the glow up he is giving me to the members of the production crew who don't know me because we haven't worked together yet. I feel like I'll be walking into a glow party, so thank you for that, my friend ... solidifying these beautiful connections before I even get there. Your friendship is priceless. Thank you. Darn it, now I'm crying!
I can't wait to see you all, and give you the biggest tightest hugs. So many of us have worked on numerous movies together, but, the sentiment of this one is definitely the most special and meaningful.
It's more than a movie. It's family.
Much love to you all.
Let's make a great movie!
