On the Tenth Day of Health my ER doctor gave to me: All the reminders to keep toasts in good measure, a safer-night pleasure, for all to celebrate responsibly!

🎅 Plan Your Ride: Never drink and drive. Designate a driver, use rideshares, or plan to stay overnight.
🎅 Eat Before You Drink: Don't drink on an empty stomach. Food slows alcohol absorption.
🎅 Hydrate Smart: Alternate alcoholic drinks with water or non-alcoholic beverages.
🎅 Know Your Limit (and Stick to It!): Decide how much you'll drink before you start and track your consumption.
🎅 Pace Yourself: Avoid the overindulgence by sipping slowly and enjoy the moment, rather than chugging.

Dignity Health’s 24/7 emergency rooms and trauma centers want you to have a safe and happy holiday season, free of any alcohol-related injuries or emergencies. 🧑‍⚕️ According to the Healthcare Cost and Utilization Project's Nationwide Emergency Department Sample data with annual averages reported for 2020-21, U.S. emergency departments saw over 4 million alcohol-related visits, and there were more than 2 million tracked hospitalizations.

On the Ninth Day of Health my doctor gave to me: Nine cool sips of water so bright in the southwest’s strong light to keep my fluid-levels just right.

Staying hydrated is important for a healthier and more energized you! Not only does hydration help your cognition and your immune system, it also helps your body process and flush out the holiday indulgences, reducing bloating, fatigue, and other discomforts.

💧 Start and end your day with water.
💧 Stay consistent. Press the easy button by investing in a reusable water bottle that you can keep close (and refilled) throughout the day.
💧 Embrace hydrating foods when you can! Think crunchy cucumbers, juicy oranges, hydrating berries, crisp salads, and soothing soups.

On the Sixth Day of Health my doctor gave to me: Instructions to wash all those germs, like squiggly soft worms, for wellness to be!

Practicing healthy hand hygiene is important for avoiding pesky, illness-causing winter germs:

🧼 Wash your hands thoroughly, scrubbing with soap for at least 20 seconds (wet, lather, scrub, rinse, dry.)
🧴 Use sanitizer with at least 60% alcohol, when soap and water aren't available.
🤧 Avoid touching your face, cover coughs and sneezes in a tissue or your elbow, and disinfect surfaces regularly!

Maintaining a healthy lifestyle will help you avoid illness and have the best holiday. Our primary care doctors are always here for you! Take advantage of your annual appointment before the year's end: https://ow.ly/CYxc50XICxP.
