Yes, you read the right. 🄹

We are moving to the Philippines in October.

As I reflect on the last almost 4 years we have been here in Las Vegas, my heart feels full and sad all at the same time. Moving here wasn’t easy but it was a decision we made as a family for growth. That was exactly what happened, we grew through all the good and bad experiences. We’ve also met some beautiful people who we now call family.

Dang, how can one write without crying? Oh wait, I’m a cancer. It’s inevitable. 🤭

With that said, I will no longer be taking new clients. However, I will continue to provide care to my established clients.

Oh don’t worry, I won’t leave you hanging. I have so much to share. I’m not even sure if I create a vlog about all this or a new IG. We shall see.

For now… if you’ve read this far. Thank you for being here and for supporting me and my small business. It has thrived since 2016 because of your trust. šŸ¤

Thank goodness it was a training with Lactation Professionals! Well and chiropractors but they were there for lactation, too.

I’m not sure I would have felt comfortable pumping during the training and in the conference room if it wasn’t.

I purposely sat at the back so I wouldn’t distract others during my pumping sessions. I would pump every 3hours during this 8-5 training. Based on what I’ve learned nursing Arlo, I would expect to pump 2-4.5 oz. each time. I knew it wouldn’t be consistent because there are times where he would feed like it was a buffet and other times like it was a drive-thru. (That was fun to type. lol)

Now before I continue and since I’m an IBCLC, I did what worked for me as a mother. :) I wouldn’t suggest taking this as full advice if you are pumping somewhere other than your home. That requires individualized support through a consult. šŸ˜‰

When it was time to pump I:
1. Took my pump out of my cooler
2. Put them on, pulled my chair towards the rear corner of the conference room, and pumped away. While my pump was fairly quiet, I didn’t want to disrupt/distract others because I would usually be pumping while the lecture was going on. I pumped for about 25mins each time.
3. Once I was done, I poured my milk straight into the chiller.
4. I then wiped my parts and put it back into my cooler.

Yep that’s it.

Oh yes, I know… ā€œBut I thought you should wait before the milk is the same temperature before mixing!ā€

Yes. That IS what most guidelines still say. But things have changed and besides, Ceres has thought about this too! They provide a great resource and explanation on their FAQ. It’s such a great read by the way! You’re welcome.

At the end of the day, I used the Ceres All-You-Need Wash Basin Bag. Yet another brilliant invention by them! 😌

Based on how things went, I realized I bought too many chambers. However, they make a great water bottle for the girls. So they’ve been using that to school. I plan to use them for future family trips too!

Oh and the chiller? We can use it for many other things. Ugh, so cool. šŸ˜Ž

My biggest worry wasn’t pumping. It was how I would safely store all the milk! 😳

The week before my flight out, I kept thinking about how unsanitary places might be. Especially the hotel’s fridge. How I would protect the million the breastmilk bags. Would I just pump to protect my supply and use these for baths? Then I remembered Rikki using during one of our workshops. I immediately messaged her. She highly recommended it and even suggested to purchase the cleaning kit. I was worried it would arrive late but thankfully it didn’t!

My plan was to follow baby boy’s current feeding routine (he calls the shots) and so thankfully he HAS a routine and taught us his preference for a few months now. That meant to pump every 3 hours with one 5-6 hour break.

Now the device I chose was initially to bring the Spectra. But since my milk supply is established, I decided to carry light and brought my hands free pump.

Here’s a list of things I brought with me for my pumping needs:
1. My pump and the pump bag it came with
2. Two Ceres Chillers (thank you Rikki for lending me one 🄹)
3. Five of the Ceres chambers (I wasn’t sure if I was going to decide to store the milk in the chambers or in the chiller so I got extras incase)
4. Ceres cleaning kit
5. Pump wipes
6. Soft cooler
7. Sanitizing Spray and wipes

Finally I snuggled my baby and sniffed him enough to try to last me two days 😭

Stay tuned - I’ll be sharing how it went and what I ended up doing and using

ā€œKnowing WHY fuels resilience.ā€ - Simon Sinek

Last week I flew to Chicago and had the honor of learning from two IBCLCs who I look up to. It was a dream! I mean, I’m still on cloud nine!

Through this workshop I learned
1. Advanced Breastfeeding Care and Clinical Concepts from Lisa &
2. Gentle Manual Therapeutic Techniques in Lactation from Maya

Aside from deepening my skill and shifting some perspective, I was reminded of my WHY. Lisa and Maya are not only professionals but I’ve learned how deeply rooted their passion is to support families.

I’ve got new skills unlocked and I can’t wait to start applying them. šŸ˜

P.s For professional- I highly recommend take their workshops.

Big emotions all at once suck.
Anger. Sadness. Feeling inadequate. Fear. Pain. Love.

This is motherhood.

I contemplated on sharing this. Then I thought, all my clients share their vulnerability with me and trust me enough to be their safe space. So here’s me. Being raw and vulnerable. We need more of these types of truths on the internet.

This was day two of having a fussy baby and lacking sleep so much. It caught up to me. What was even worse- I didn’t ask or beg for help. I kept it in and let it build up.

Something I’m still working on.

Now that I’m looking back at this photo. I should have told myself what I normally tell my clients going through the same emotions…

ā€œEdna, you have to remember that raising a little isn’t meant to be done alone. I know how hard you’re trying and how much love you have for baby. Asking for help does not make you weak or a failure.

Just like you, your baby is just trying to adjust. So when that happens, they want to stay where they feel the safest… in your arms. Yes, it’s been 5 months but there are many phases of adjustments in postpartum. I see you and I’m holding space for you.ā€

When you were going through it. What did you wish someone told you or what would you have said to yourself?
