Elevating your legs (or flipping so your head drops below your heart) is a simple way to nudge your system toward parasympathetic activity.

The small shift in fluid flow stretches baroreceptors (pressure-sensitive mechanoreceptors in your blood vessels). They interpret that as increased pressure and trigger a reflex that lowers heart rate and blood pressure to maintain homeostasis.

That shift is associated with dialing down “fight or flight,” and includes a reduction in circulating stress hormones so your system can settle.

For a lot of people, that shows up as feeling a little less wired, a little less achy, and generally better in their body.

Share with your non-yoga friends. I included options at the end that anyone can do at home, no yoga props needed.

Props tend to get a reputation that they make poses easier, but that's not always the case. In single pigeon, it will actually help many people feel a bigger glute stretch because it allows them to settle into the pose instead of leaning out of it.

I have a whole blog post with multiple videos covering different talking points about this pose. It's kind of an AMA compilation of all the questions I have answered over the years.

Clip here is from a class inside my Practice Collection Volume 4.

To be clear, it's ecc when you're actively hinging but iso once you get there. There seems to be a lot of confusion about this in my continuing education courses, so I make sure to cover it.

Guess I need to submit that book number 2 proposal already!

Most yoga teachers already cue something like this in ardha hanumanasana and just don't realize it. I like it even more here. It feels less crowded with the reach up the wall.

Also, I know you are taking away the balance part of the pose. Don't @ me. Sometimes you have to give up one thing to get another. Keep your yoga interesting. ✨️✌️

Wait for the meow 😹

All joking aside, I mean everything I say here. Corporate yoga class sequencing rules have done quite a bit of damage. How you sequence should depend on what you're teaching and why.

Clip is from my Breathing Mechanics livestream course. My entire online offerings are 30% off through Monday. Browse your options where you find the link.

All the instructions are really just leading up the breath inquiry since that's the one that matters most. 🫁 🦴

And of course, there's a cramp at the end. Does anyone NOT get a cramp in this pose? 🤣

04/16/2026

Clip from Friday's online class. We did a whole exploration of the relationship between shoulder internal and external rotation and T-spine flexion and extension. We used the breath a ton because if your ribs aren't moving, you’re probably going to struggle to find these ranges.

If you didn’t know, I know I do teach online classes. I have 4 different practice collections available. It's a window into my personal practice and how I put together my themes and sequences. It might be one of my favorite programs I offer. Since I haven't taught regular public classes since 2015, this is a solid way to apply all the continuing education programs I teach. They aren't just all theory. The concepts really do make their way to the mat.

Happy yoga-ing.

Highlight reel of last weekend in Los Angeles. I left right after teaching to fly back home to Las Vegas for a quick sleep before turning around and heading to Taipei.

It took me about 3 days to get here, see the yoga space, meet the staff, walk around outside, and adjust to the time zone.

I'm ready to go. I start teaching today.

The Los Angeles teachers were exceptional. We covered 5 days of material in 2 days.

I have a feeling it will be the opposite here in Taiwan. We might cover 2 days of content in 5 days.

Partially because there will be a translator so everything I say will be repeated. But the main reason is that I will want to discover what this community's needs are.

I don't know if they have the same yoga culture as we do. I can make some assumptions based on who I know teaches here regularly, but I won't know anything for sure until they open up to me. And from my experience with my previous Taiwanese students, I'm not sure they just blurt out whatever is on their mind the way our US yoga teachers do. I will have to be vulnerable with them so they trust me to be vulnerable and share their messy questions with me.

I'm excited even though I have no real plan. I'm letting the students guide the curriculum. Of course I have a course description but it's literally my entire of body of work summarized, meaning we can go in any direction they want.

That happened in Los Angeles too and it was golden.

Basically my entire purpose of the 300hr YTT is to take your questions. You'll get answers when they are clear and evident. You'll get assistance in refining your questions when the answers are multifaceted or unknown.

Even if you have to miss a session, your questions are still my priority. Here’s how I make sure they all get adressed:

1️⃣ You can comment directly on the recordings, I respond to every question.

2️⃣ There’s a dedicated group in our mentoring community for ongoing discussions.

3️⃣ You can DM me there privately. I reply quickly and promptly.

4️⃣ I start most live sessions with “Any questions?" so you can just ask next time you attend.

5️⃣ You’ll have three one-on-one calls with me where we can talk about anything you want.

6️⃣ Even your homework is a way to ask, the assignments are direct line to me.

In fact, this entire post is inspired by questions about questions I have received from course participants. 😆

When you discover what really matters before the mainstream conversation officially catches up.

If you're miserable in a pose just waiting for it to end, ditch the alignment and chase JOY.

I had a date with a research paper and a glass of champagne on NYE. 🥂

Bone density is such a big topic in the yoga sphere probably because of the population who it primarily serves. Along with that comes a whole lot of good information and a whole lot of misinformation.

I reviewed this paper for my mentoring program and it was complicated. With some basic research literacy skills, however, it's easy to understand that mainstream media headlines and wellness influencer promises are inflating conclusions.

I remember the first time I got this pulling adjustment in a yoga class. It completely transformed the pose for me. I got so much more rotation and my front hip felt less crowded.

Look closely, you'll see what I mean. Then give it a try!
