Okra Water & Labor Prep? Let’s Talk About It
Okra isn’t just for gumbo—it might just help your cervix too.
The slimy stuff (aka mucilage) is believed to soften the cervix, support hydration, and prep your body for labor.

📌 Rich in magnesium + folate
📌 May help reduce tearing
📌 Traditional birth prep favorite in many cultures

Want to try it? Soak 2–3 okra pods in a glass of water overnight. Drink it the next morning in your final weeks of pregnancy

This isn't a miracle drink, but it's a gentle nudge from nature.

You don’t have to give birth alone.
You don’t even have to leave the bed.
You just need the right person in your corner.

Let's clear this up once and for all. Inductions do NOT mean C-Section! Here is the truth: MOST inductions end in uncomplicated vaginal births. With the right prep, inductions can be smooth, calm and even empowering. Don't let fear be louder than the facts!

The Labor Mindset

Birth isn’t just physical—it’s deeply mental. The way you think and feel during labor can shape how it unfolds.

Here’s the truth:
💭 Your thoughts affect your hormones
💓 Your hormones affect your contractions
🌀 Your mindset can either fuel tension—or open the way for progress

🌿 The labor mindset means:
🔹 Trusting your body (even when it shakes)
🔹 Surrendering to each wave instead of fighting it
🔹 Knowing intensity = progress, not danger
🔹 Staying present, not perfect
🔹 Tuning in—not checking out

Every breath, every moan, every moment—it all counts.
You don’t have to be fearless. You just have to keep going.

Let’s train your mind like your body—so when labor begins, you’re ready.

Why Your Hips Matter in Labor

Your hips aren’t just for dancing—they’re the gateway for your baby’s journey earthside.

Here’s why hip health and mobility really matter in pregnancy and birth:

🔓 Open hips = open pathway
Tight hips can restrict space in the pelvis. The more mobile and balanced your hips are, the more room baby has to rotate, descend, and engage.

🌀 Pelvic movement encourages progress
Rocking, lunging, swaying, deep squats—all help shift baby into the optimal position for labor. Your hips are the steering wheel of the pelvis.

💥 Imbalanced hips = stalled labor
When one side is tighter, baby might get “stuck” or rotate the long way around. Hip-focused exercises during pregnancy can prevent that.

Daily hip love looks like:
• Gentle stretching (think figure-4s + butterflies)
• Hip circles on the birth ball
• Prenatal yoga or Spinning Babies techniques
• Walking + pelvic tilts

Strong, flexible hips = a smoother, shorter, and more comfortable labor. Let’s get them moving!

Natural Oxytocin vs. Pitocin: What’s the Difference?

Both help your uterus contract… but they are not the same thing. Let’s break it down

🌸 Natural Oxytocin
✨ Made by your body
✨ Released during intimacy, ni**le stimulation, labor, and bonding
✨ Works in waves, allowing rest between contractions
✨ Also triggers love, calm, and connection—aka the feel-good hormone
✨ Best supported by privacy, dim lights, touch, safety, and trust

💉 Pitocin (Synthetic Oxytocin)
🚨 Given by IV in a hospital
🚨 Creates stronger, more frequent contractions
🚨 Can feel more intense and harder to cope with
🚨 Doesn’t cross the blood-brain barrier—so no feel-good calming effect
🚨 Often requires continuous monitoring and limits mobility

The goal is a safe, supported birth.
There’s a time and place for Pitocin—but don’t underestimate the power of natural oxytocin when labor is nurtured with patience, touch, and trust.

Let’s work with your body—not against it.

What If I Need a C-Section?

Let’s talk about it—without fear, shame, or guilt.
Because needing a cesarean doesn’t mean you failed—it means you and your baby are getting the safest birth possible for your situation. Period.

Here’s what you should know:

Planned or unplanned, you still deserve support.
A doula can walk you through what to expect, stay with you pre-op, and help you process afterward.

You can still make choices.
Ask for skin-to-skin in the OR, delayed cord clamping, a clear drape, music playing—yes, you still have options.

You’re still giving birth.
You’ll meet your baby in the same way: full of love, strength, and courage.

Recovery looks different—but you’re not alone.
We prep for it. We plan for it. And we care for you, not just your incision.

C-section births deserve just as much preparation, support, and celebration. You are STILL a warrior.

If a cesarean is part of your story—expected or not—I’ll be by your side.

Surviving the Summer Solstice (While Pregnant!)

The longest day of the year hits different when you're growing a whole human.
Here’s how to keep your cool (literally + emotionally) through the summer solstice:

🌿 Hydrate like it’s your job
Your blood volume has doubled—so should your water intake. Coconut water, cucumber slices, & electrolyte drinks are your new besties.

🧊 Chill your pulse points
A cold washcloth on the back of your neck, wrists, and ankles can drop your body temp fast.

💤 Siesta > Struggle
That heatwave fatigue is real. Listen to your body—rest in the shade, nap often, and slow your pace.

🍉 Water-rich foods = magic
Think watermelon, strawberries, tomatoes, and greens. Bonus: they help fight bloat and keep you regular.

🩴 Swollen feet? Elevate + soak
Get those feet up and soak them in cool water with Epsom salts—thank us later.

🌞 Energy feels weird right now
Long days, bright light, and shifting hormones can stir up all the feels. Ground yourself with gentle routines, cooling teas, and quiet evenings.

You’re doing amazing—just remember: you don’t have to bloom all at once. Let the sun shine on you, not drain you.

The Running Start is a powerful, asymmetrical labor position designed to help:
🔹 Open the pelvis
🔹 Encourage baby’s rotation and descent
🔹 Reignite stalled labor progress

Here’s how to do it:
1️⃣ Start in a hands-and-knees or standing position
2️⃣ Bring one leg forward into a “lunge” while keeping the other back
3️⃣ Rock gently or sway to encourage movement
4️⃣ Switch legs every 20–30 minutes

Best used when:
💥 Labor has slowed or stalled
🔁 Baby is in an awkward position
📈 You need a boost in contractions

This isn’t just a pose—it’s a strategy. One leg leads the way, just like baby needs to.

Tip: Pair it with deep breathing and vocalizing to double the effect.

Your body knows the way—this position just gives it a little nudge.
