Clint Ferrin Memorial Veterans Dental Clinic was started in honor of the older brother of graduate, John Ferrin, DMD in 2008 at the UNLV School of Dental Medicine. Sergeant First Class (SFC) Ferrin was an American hero. He served in Kosovo, Bosnia, Italy, West Africa, Afghanistan and Iraq with the U.S. Army in D Company, 1st Battalion, 504th Parachute Infantry Regiment, 82nd Airborne Division as an Infantryman. After having a front tooth knocked out during training, Dr. Ferrin watched his older brother struggle to receive proper dental care due to frequent deployments and training and, following his brother’s death, was inspired to provide an avenue for local veterans, who otherwise have limited or no access to care, a place to be treated for free. SFC Ferrin was killed in action, along with two fellow soldiers, in Baghdad, Iraq on March 13, 2004 by an improvised explosive device (IED). Our Clinic: Each Saturday clinic functions as a regular clinic ten times per year and serves upwards of 50 veterans representing members of every branch of the U.S. Armed Forces including Army, Navy, Marine Corps, Air Force, Coast Guard as well as National Guard veterans. Dental students, staff and faculty all volunteer their time to make this clinic possible. Please see our website below for more information on clinic qualifications. Services Offered: As a completely student-run clinic, it is the only clinic of its kind in any American dental school and has received a number of national awards in recognition. During each four hour clinic, a full range of services is offered including filling, root canals, tooth extractions and dentures. How We Use Funds: 100% of funds raised and gifts donated to this program are used for direct patient care with the primary objectives being pain elimination, cavity repair and obtaining, at minimum, the baseline of optimal oral health. How YOUR gift helps : As the only clinic of its kind, we make an incredible impact on the lives of our local Veterans. We empower our veterans to prioritize their oral care and get them out of pain, provide them with the opportunity to eat again and above all, help them afford the care that they deserve. We are sincerely thankful for any support we receive as these gift donations are the only way we are able to cover the cost of care, materials and lab fees to provide comprehensive oral care.
