Christina Mattison Yoga I’m Christina Mattison, your yoga teacher!

I’m a 500 hour Certified Yoga Teacher, and I use intentional alignment coupled with an integrated approach to help you achieve physical, mental, and emotional health.

It’s not because you’re too busy, not motivated enough, your goals aren’t “S.M.A.R.T.” enough, or life keeps throwing curveballs at you.

Your healthy habits aren’t sticking because you aren’t addressing what’s happening at the core level.

It has to go beyond Band-aids, shortcuts, and quick fixes. 🩹

You have to look at your Identity, your beliefs, and the way you speak about yourself and initiate change here.

Otherwise you’ll default right back to hitting snooze, mindlessly scrolling social media, and criticizing yourself all day long.

That’s how my method is different from trying to do it on your own, printing out a habit tracker, or joining an accountability program.

With me, you dig beneath the surface, to the Identity and Beliefs level, and start making changes there.

Then you adjust your actions to align with the person you are becoming.

And that, my friend, leads to long-term change (instead of surging for 3 weeks, only to go back to the way it was before)

If you’re ready to try something different and start believing “I am a morning person” or “I am mindful and intentional with my attention and time” or “I am strong, smart, beautiful, and ENOUGH!” then you want what I’m teaching in the Atomic Habits Bootcamp.

Want more info? Send me a DM and let’s chat!

Strategizing your self-care may sound insane, but hear me out! 🤪

A lot of the time, we try all the self-care things. All the things. Bath bombs, Netflix and chill, yoga, meditation, baking, breathing, quiet time, you name it. There are so many suggestions, yet there’s no rhyme or reason to them, no system. So ultimately we get frustrated because it feels like our self-care isn’t working. 🫠

Believe it or not, I recommend strategizing your self-care in order to choose things that work for YOU, and build a system AROUND those things.

Ask yourself these three questions:

1️⃣ What are my needs that need to be met on a regular basis?
2️⃣ What are my high yield self care activities? (Things that give you a high rate of return on energy, mood, and filling your cup)
3️⃣ How can I build these activities into a self-care system?

If you’re scratching your head in response to all three of these questions, DON’T WORRY. I’ve got you.

I’m putting together a step-by-step guide designed to help you build out a solid self-care system that ACTUALLY helps you meet your needs, improves your energy and mood, as well as filling your cup to the brim. 🎉🎉🎉

If you want this guide once it’s ready drop a 💙 in the comments!

Need ideas on how you can practice more gratitude?

🤝 Volunteer - get out and serve your community, or help someone in need. Spreading kindness does the spirit and soul good

🧘🏻‍♀️ Meditate - practice a gratitude meditation as part of your morning routine so you start the day with a positive, uplifted mindset (Check out my meditation highlight or search me on Insight Timer for my gratitude meditations)

🗣 Express it - tell someone meaningful to you about the ways you appreciate them. It will make you feel good, them feel good, and strengthen your relationship!

✍🏼 Gratitude Journal - put a small notebook beside your bed, and at the end of every day, write down a few good things or a few things you’re thankful for. Make it a bedtime ritual!

🌳 Take a Nature Walk - get outside in nature and use your 5 senses. Savor everything you experience about our beautiful world

📝 Start a Gratitude Jar - put a jar, paper, and pen in a central place in your home. Encourage your family to write down things they are thankful for regularly and put them in the jar. When things get tough, read them!

Which of these are you going to try? 🤔 Let me know in the comments!

Did you know that you might be marinating in your own stress juice?

it’s true! When we live a stressful life full of chronic stressors, our body never completes the stress cycle.

completing the stress cycle basically means you’re telling your body that you’re safe and the threat has been eliminated.

but in the 21st-century, our body never knows when the threat has been eliminated, because the threat is that jerk in the office, that huge project that you’re working on, or your kids are being total jerks.

So how do we tell our body that it’s safe?

WE MOVE!!

Exercise, movement, yoga, or DANCE are incredible ways to complete your stress cycle.

So put on your favorite song and dance it out today my friend!!! 💃🏻💃🏻💃🏻

What is Vinyasa Yoga?? 🤔

Vinyasa flow is a style of yoga where we flow from one pose to the next, linking breath and movement.

The practice is characterized by stringing postures together so that you move from one to another, seamlessly, using breath.

I love this style of yoga, because it really helps me to get out of my head and into my body.

Plus, I feel like I’m doing a dance! 💃🏻💃🏻

This is a peek 👀 at my new class Ladder Flow 2.0 launching on my yoga app next week!

Ladder Flows build on themselves, adding new poses to the flow each round, so you can really get familiar with the movements. 🪜🪜

Can’t wait to share this class with you!

Raise your hand in the comments if you love Vinyasa! 🙋🏻‍♀️🙋🏻‍♀️

I finally got a notepad for my shower!

I usually have my best ideas and solve all my problems in the shower. 💡💡💡

But I always forget them as soon as I get out and dry off 😩

So I solved that problem and got a waterproof notepad from Amazon!

When do you get your best ideas? Where do you feel most inspired?

This pandemic isn't going anywhere. 🤬

Now we’re facing colder months with gyms and studios closing back down.

😫 Back to scrolling through THOUSANDS of online yoga videos.

😫 Back to feeling unmotivated, without accountability, sliding back into old habits.

😫 Netflix binges, holiday eating, interruptions to your routine that derail the entire thing.

Which leads to negative self-talk, a further downturn in motivation, a spike in your stress levels, irritability, impatience, anxiety, depression. 😫😫😫

The list goes on.

Ready for the good news? It doesn’t have to be this way!!!

My clients are going into this season with structure, accountability, strength, and confidence. 💪

Why? Because they invested in themselves and did the work.

✨ First, they committed to deepening their yoga practice by getting on their mat 3-4 times a week.

For them, yoga stopped just being about the poses, and became so much more!

✨ Next, they started adding tools to their toolbox. They learned breathwork, mindfulness, and mindset practices to incorporate anytime they feel overwhelmed, stressed, or anxious.

✨Then, they started doing the inner work - learning to love themselves, give themselves more grace and compassion, and discover their own inner strength and resilience.

You can ask them - they’re real people right here in this group!

Courtney went all in, committing to her regular yoga practice - after just starting yoga for the first time a few months ago! She learned SO much and her love for yoga grew to the point that she’s now pursuing her Yoga Teacher Training in 2021!

Casey was going through a tough transition to a new assignment, right in the middle of COVID. She felt disconnected and unmotivated. Now, she’s got a rock solid routine, is way kinder to herself, listens to her needs, and is making meaningful connections with people she loves. She’s even continuing her journey in Lead Your Life cohort 2 this February!

Whitney joined for the yoga, but got so much more. She started incorporating the tools and principles of yoga into her life - and now she’s feeling more present with her family, is more kind to herself, and has her priorities really clear and aligned with her values.

And I’m telling you people…

YOU are capable of being Yoga Strong, too.

It does NOT have to wait until you're "better" at yoga.
(everyone starts somewhere!)

It does NOT have to wait until you have more time…
(you create time for what’s important to you)

It does NOT have to wait until the stars align.

You align your OWN STARS by deciding to be ready now, going ALL IN, and committing to yourself.

Other immersive programs like this cost up to $1,000.

Usually, the Yoga Strong program is $597 (one of my clients even said it’s worth way more than that!)

For Cyber Monday - for the next 48 hours ONLY - you can get the full 8 week program for only $297.

That’s 50% OFF!

I’m guessing you want to put 2020 in the rear view mirror, right?

I hear you.

I most definitely feel this way a lot.

However, lately I’ve been talking a lot with my clients about reframing failure.

And while 2020 can seem like one huge smelly pile of failure, I invite you to take a closer look.

What have you learned about yourself?

What have you learned about others?

How have you grown?

How have you overcome challenges and obstacles?

When we think about “failure” through this lens, is failure really failure?

Or is it an opportunity for growth, change, and learning?

Thomas Edison said: “I have not failed. I’ve just found 10,000 ways that won’t work.”

JK Rowling was broke and about to give up when she wrote Harry Potter. She said “It is impossible to live without failing at something, unless you live so cautiously that you might as well not have lived at all – in which case, you fail by default.”

Oprah was FIRED from her first job in TV. Her thoughts: “There is no such thing as failure. Failure is just life trying to move us in another direction.”

So while 2020 may seem like a dumpster fire, there’s so much more to be learned when we take a closer look.

Failure is not failure unless you let it be.

As we move into the season of Thanksgiving (even though there's Christmas stuff errywhere), it can be challenging to feel grateful with everything that's happened in 2020.

🧡Practicing gratitude raises our vibration and shifts our focus to the positive, rather than the negative. 🧡

3 ways to practice more gratitude every day:

1. Set your intention to appreciate every moment, every breath and every movement.

2. Count your blessings

3. Focus on the positive

Try these 4 yoga poses to invite in more gratitude and reflection 🧡

11/09/2020

My favorite mini flow for hip and glute strength!

1. Start with one leg lifted, thigh parallel
2. Transition with the exhale to Warrior III
3. Repeat 5-10x
4. From Warrior III, tuck the extended leg behind the other, kind of like a curtsy squat, then re-extend to Warrior III
5. Repeat 5-10x

Modifications!!
👍🏻Use blocks underneath your hands for support in Warrior III
👍🏻 Use a wall if balance is challenging

Give it a shot and let me know what you think!

Your nervous system might be keeping you awake at night 🥱

Chronic stress = an overtaxed nervous system

An overtaxed nervous system can lead to:
👎🏼 High blood pressure
👎🏼 Headaches/migraines
👎🏼 Adrenal fatigue
👎🏼 Digestive issues
👎🏼 Depression
👎🏼 Anxiety
👎🏼 Sleep problems

Experiencing the above symptoms can lead to MORE stress, putting your body in a negative feedback loop.

Chronic stress means higher levels of cortisol and adrenaline in the body, which inhibit healthy sleep.

What can you do about an overtaxed nervous system? Practice activities that soothe the nervous system and trigger the relaxation response.

Yoga, specifically restorative yoga:
👍🏼 Decreases stress and tension
👍🏼 Helps heal the body
👍🏼 Quiets the mind
👍🏼 Soothes the nervous system
👍🏼 Promotes deeper sleep

Try practicing Legs Up the Wall and Reclined Bound Angle Pose (pictured) for 5-10 minutes before bed and take deep, slow breaths. Use pillows and blankets to support your body! 😴😴😴

Which of the issues listed above is causing you the most problems right now? Drop it in the comments below 👇🏼
