Foods high in cholesterol can still be healthy?! 🥚🦐

Dietary cholesterol does NOT raise your blood cholesterol like we once thought. But outdated nutrition labels still make it seem dangerous.

Some cholesterol-rich foods are actually heart-healthy, like:
🍳 Eggs – High in protein, low in calories.
🦐 Shellfish – Great source of lean protein.

So, what’s the scoop on dietary cholesterol? And how does it differ from serum cholesterol? We’re breaking it down in our recent blog. Read it here: https://www.nevadacardiology.com/dietary-vs-serum-cholesterol/

You’ve probably heard that your heart is about the size of your fist… but that’s not the whole story! 👊

🏃‍♂️ Athletes’ hearts can actually grow larger due to intense training. This is called an athlete’s heart, a natural adaptation that helps pump more oxygen-rich blood to their muscles. 💪

But not all heart enlargement is healthy. Certain medical conditions, like high blood pressure, heart disease, or cardiomyopathy, can cause an unhealthy increase in heart size, leading to serious complications.

💡 So how big is your heart, really? It depends on your lifestyle, genetics, and overall health. Want to keep it strong? Prioritize regular exercise, a heart-healthy diet, and routine check-ups! ❤️

🩺 A PET scan (Positron Emission Tomography) is a powerful imaging test that helps assess blood flow to your heart and detect potential issues like blocked arteries or damaged heart muscle.

🔹 Before the Scan: You may be asked to avoid eating for a few hours before the test. A small amount of a radioactive tracer will be injected into your vein which is completely safe and helps create detailed images of your heart.

🔹 During the Scan: You’ll lie comfortably on a table that moves through the PET scanner. The machine will take images as the tracer moves through your heart, showing areas with good blood flow and potential concerns. The test is painless and non-invasive.

🔹 After the Scan: Your doctor will review the results to help guide you in your next steps.
This test is an essential tool in diagnosing heart conditions early and ensuring the best treatment plan for you!

How many steps do you actually need for heart health? 🚶‍♂️

🏃🏽‍♀️💨 Some say 10,000 steps is the magic number, others claim it’s around 8,000. Some people even say that you need 12,000+ steps a day. While there might not be a magic number, it's important to recognize that consistency matters. If you currently spend very little time exercising, as few as 5000 steps a day, keeping it up regularly, can be exceptionally beneficial.

💪 The bottom line is that you get up and start moving. Consistency is crucial, and slowly moving to longer and more challenging exercises can make all the difference in your heart health. Speak to your primary care physician or cardiologist about appropriate exercises and intensities for you, and then get out there and enjoy the new phase in your life that will yield great satisfaction and health.

We break step count down in our latest blog. Check it out here: https://www.nevadacardiology.com/how-many-steps-do-you-need-for-heart-health/

🫀It’s Women’s Health Month! When you think of a heart attack, you might picture crushing chest pain. But for women, the signs can be much more subtle and easily overlooked.

🚨While women can still experience chest pain, they may have jaw pain, nausea, extreme fatigue, or even right-sided abdominal pain. Because these symptoms aren’t as widely recognized, women are more likely to be misdiagnosed or delay seeking care, putting them at higher risk for serious complications. 💁‍♀️

If something feels “off,” don’t ignore it! Knowing these warning signs could save your life.

Did you know red yeast rice contains the same active ingredient as some prescription statins? It’s been used for centuries and may help lower cholesterol naturally. 🍚

But before you stock up, here’s what you should know:
⚠️ Red yeast rice isn’t FDA-regulated, meaning quality and dosage can vary.
✅ Look for third-party tested supplements for safety.
And of course, always talk to your doctor before adding it to your routine.

Is it really an effective alternative to statins? We’re breaking it down in our latest blog:

🚬 Smoking isn’t just a lung problem.

The chemicals in ci******es damage your blood vessels, causing plaque buildup that narrows arteries, increases blood pressure, and raises your risk of heart attacks and strokes. 🫀

The good news? If you quit smoking, your body can start reversing the damage.

You could have a heart attack and not even know it! 😲 It’s called a silent heart attack, and happens more often than you’d think. About 45% of all heart attacks come with few or no symptoms.

Even if symptoms are mild (or nonexistent), the damage to your heart is just as serious as a typical heart attack. That’s why EKGs can be a game-changer. They may detect a past silent heart attack in over 40% of cases! 🫀

Want to know how an EKG can help? We break it all down in our latest blog. Read it here:

🌭🥗 Knowing what she knows now about heart health, there are a few foods that Dr. Moazez avoids.

For one, foods that are high in salt and fat. Things like fried foods, processed snacks, and full-fat dairy. She also limits red meats like steak, lamb, and bacon.

Instead, she loads up on lean proteins like chicken, fish, and plant-based options to keep her heart health in check. 🥗🐟

Our commitment is to deliver the utmost in personalized cardiovascular care, emphasizing compassion, friendliness, clear communication, prompt service, and emergency availability. We provide the full spectrum of comprehensive cardiology services. This is accomplished through the dedication and devotion of our 8 locally recognized top Cardiologists along with their specially trained and caring support staff. Heart problems, such as hypertension, hypercholesterolemia, coronary artery disease, high blood pressure, valvular heart disease, cardiomyopathy, congestive heart failure, abnormal heart rhythms, and circulatory problems are investigated and treated with cutting edge cardiovascular care. We accept most private health insurances as well as Medicare. We promise to deliver the utmost in personalized cardiovascular care. Nevada Cardiology Associates was formed in 1989 in response to the needs of Southern Nevada residents to meet their diagnostic and therapeutic problems. Since that time, NCA has been acknowledged as a pioneering force in innovative cardiovascular practices. We have been recognized by the Andre Agassi Foundation (Exclusively Las Vegas Project) as a leader in cardiovascular care. We have hosted the Joint California-Nevada Cardiovascular Symposia to bring advanced medical education to the Valley. The current eight-member group brings together a wealth of highly qualified and diversely trained cardiologists. Each physician has received advanced fellowship training by leading nationally recognized programs. Our different areas of expertise include preventive cardiology and health maintenance, cardiac rehabilitation, diagnostic cardiac testing, interventional cardiology, electrophysiology, and nuclear cardiac imaging. Our Cardiology Board Certified physicians serve in medical staff leadership positions in local area hospitals and organizations, as well as, conducting ongoing inpatient and outpatient research projects. Nevada Cardiology Associates utilizes a wide array of advanced noninvasive testing to aid in the prompt diagnosis and treatment of cardiovascular problems. This includes walking and non-walking stress testing, cardiopulmonary stress testing, nuclear cardiac imaging, transthoracic echocardiography, transesophageal echocardiography, vascular testing and heart rhythm monitoring. When further information is needed to pinpoint the nature of an underlying abnormality, invasive cardiac assessment such as cardiac catheterization, intravascular ultrasound and electrophysiology studies may be undertaken When advanced interventional treatment is needed, NCA Cardiologists can perform intravascular ultrasound, balloon angioplasty, coronary atherectomy, intracoronary stent placement, radiofrequency ablation and implantation of pacemakers and internal defibrillators. Many procedures are minimally invasive and can either extend life or improve the quality of life (or both). It is our goal to maximize patient benefit and comfort and to minimize risk. Like all good physicians, NCA Cardiologists regularly stress lifestyle changes and risk factor modification in an effort to minimize cardiovascular disease progression and to foster disease regression. Our business staff is experienced in dealing with insurance companies and financial matters relating to cardiovascular services. We try to make the whole process easy and worry free. We find ways to work with our patients and their insurance companies so you get the necessary treatment when you need it. We provide patient care and cost-saving outpatient testing in two convenient locations. Nevada Cardiology Associates welcomes any questions you may have about our services.
