In most cases, greater range of motion (rom) is more important than load 🔥

Training at full ROM has multiple benefits. As you can see in this study, it leads to greater levels of hypertrophy and decreased fat.

Training at full ROM is also going to increase your mobility because you’re moving your joints through full potential.

How to use this in training? If you up the weight and notice your ROM gets cut, back off on weight and focus on ROM.

You may or may not know this but…

A major difference between functional fitness and traditional exercise is training movement patterns versus isolated muscle groups.

Not saying we don’t do isolation work in FF, it’s just not the foundation of our training. Isolation work will normally be seen in accessory work if it does show up in programming.

The reasoning behind this is because humans function in real life as a unit, not as a single muscle or muscle group.

So that’s how we train in the gym! As a unit 🔥 This carries over into activities of daily living. Hence, functional fitness is training for LIFE 🔥

Pretty cool huh 😍

Although I’m a huge fan of fitness in any form, functional fitness is hands down my fav.

I use this app in hopes to sprinkle a little bit (or maybe even a lot) of fitness and education in your life. And I like to do that in a real and authentic way.

I’m the biggest advocate of fitness. But I am also a mom. And I like margaritas. And chocolate. I believe fitness and health can fit seamlessly into your life while also enjoying things that you love (with the right mindset and approach.)

Let’s normalize gym goals that have nothing to do with appearance 💪🏼

Because working out can be SO much more than doing it for the aesthetics.

IDK who needs to hear this but…your current level of fitness does not equate to your value as a human 🤷🏻‍♀️

This goes both ways. Strongest in the room? Check yourself. Don’t be a do**he bag.

Way less fit than you were 2 years ago? That’s okay. You’re in a different season of life now than you were then.

Brand new and the slowest in your CrossFit class? You’re just as valuable and important as the person who finished the workout first.

Focus on optimizing yourself in the season that you are in NOW. Don’t compare yourself to others.

Sometimes the SIMPLEST things are the HARDEST…like showing up.

It true.

Showing up can be the biggest hurdle for people. I hear it time and time again from my peeps. I experience it.

With that, these tips can help you stick to the plan of showing up to your workouts

1. Schedule your training session like an important work meeting and put it in your calendar. This means you can’t cancel it because “you’re tired” or “you gotta watch the new season of Stranger Things.” Prioritize it.

2. Aim to workout during the same days and times each week. We are creatures of habit. We naturally do well with schedules and with what’s familiar. Create that with your training schedule!

3. Prepare your workouts ahead of time and have it ready for the week. Having a plan in place will make it easier to show up. You already did the leg work up front to do this so you don’t want that work to go to waste. You can do this on a Sunday night for example!

You can start implementing this NOW 😍

I think YES.

The philosophy behind why I train is simple. To be a strong human for life. I want what I do in the gym to have direct carry over into everyday life! (Two for one, more bang 4 buck, you know)

Not to mention, functional training is WAY more fun than single joint/ single muscle group training 😆 Agree?

I CAN do both…

I can run a business and be a mom

I can do things for myself while taking care of him

I can educate myself in my field while also educating myself in parenthood

I can have days when I’m doing all the things and days when my “to do” list goes out the window

I can want time to myself while also cherishing every minute with him

It’s not selfish to love how your life was before you were a mom. Because I sure did!

I want to show my son that mom did things for herself out of love for both her AND him. She didn’t want the things she loved to die in this new mom life. She wanted to show him that she lived even BIGGER with him in this world 🌎💗

And one of them is how to be an essentialist 🙈

If you haven’t read the book, “Essentialism” by Greg Mckeown I highly suggest it.

The concept is to trim the fat off of any tasks in your life that aren’t essential and to pour your efforts into only what is absolutely essential.

The amount of time I have available to dedicate to business, working out, social life, etc. is way more limited than before (duh).

Still figuring things out but I’ve felt now more than ever the importance of essentialism.

Here’s to weeding out the BS and honing in on what really matters 💗

This is not to be misunderstood. Obviously losing weight can be a huge component and driving force to working out.

The thing is…people so often use it as the #1 motivating factor.

You look around everywhere and see advertisements for weight loss.

Most people start working out because they want to lose weight.

All I’m saying is- change your mindset.

Workout to be a strong human being that is able to do fitnessy things throughout your lifespan.

I guarantee you will have a healthier attitude around working out, enjoy it more, AND will lose weight.

One of the reasons why I started my own business was for this season in my life that I am in right now. (Funny thing is I never thought of myself as a planner but helloooo 😝 A lot of the decisions I made in my 20’s was to set me up for where I’m at right now.

I always knew I wanted kids. And I always knew I wanted to be able to spend the majority of my time with them.

I also have always been super passionate about working for myself. I thrive off of the freedom to create and pursue a vision.

Running a business is definitely the most time consuming and hardest thing I’ve ever done in my life span but it has also paid off more than anything. Especially for these moments that I am living in right now.

The best things in life don’t come easy. Proud to be a MOMtrepeneur 💗💗💗

I literally do not care what you believe in or what you practice 😇

✨My job is to teach people how to optimize their health and well-being.

✨Having a religious/ spiritual life has mind blowing effects on our health and well being.

✨My advice, keep an open mind and explore! 😻

I grew up in the Christian church. A large part of my life I partook in church because “it was the right thing to do” and was how I was raised.

Now all I want is a relationship with Jesus 🙌🏼 And that’s all he wants from me💗

I created this post in lieu of Easter weekend! 🐰
