✨ Bribe vs. Reinforcement — Why It Matters ✨
I’ve seen many people confuse the two, and it can make a big difference in your child’s behavior.
👉 Reinforcement happens after a positive behavior and encourages it to happen again. Example: your child cleans up, then earns praise or a reward.
👉 A bribe usually happens during a problem behavior. Example: giving candy to stop a tantrum. This may quiet things for now, but it teaches that tantrums work.
💡 The key is timing—reinforcement builds skills, while bribes keep unwanted behaviors going.

✨ Big news — next month marks our 1-year anniversary! ✨
Almost one year ago, Creative Waves ABA began the journey of becoming an ABA provider — and what a year it has been! Since then, we’ve welcomed dedicated RBTs to our team and had the privilege of working alongside incredible children and families.
We are truly grateful for the trust of our clients and families, and for the hard work and compassion of our team who make a difference every single day. 💙

Building on the last post, it’s also important to explain exactly what the person did right and make your praise specific. How praise is delivered can depend on the child — it can be verbal or non-verbal. Varying your praise is also key, so it doesn’t feel repetitive.
Why Use Specific Praise in ABA?
✅ Shows the child exactly what they did right
✅ Increases the likelihood the behavior will happen again
✅ Builds confidence and motivation
Instead of saying “Good job,” try:
👉 “Great job putting your shoes on!”
👉 “I love how you took the trash out yourself.”
Specific praise teaches, guides, and motivates. Remember, the way you deliver praise can vary depending on the child.
