Walking. Just the simple act of walking can be transformative. I’m home in New York City so I’m walking a lot and I forgot how it made me feel. Blood pumping heart going… and not just walking for 10 or 15 minutes like in Las Vegas but walking for hours! You don’t need no stinking treadmill! Just get outside and walk!

Found an amazing French cafe! Flew in to McCarran and had to get to a nail appointment, but needed to eat first. Found this GEM of a place right by my nail place. The crepes are incredible, and I am allowing myself some carbs after burning calories like crazy all week. Ya’all ... the food is so good and the atmosphere makes me feel I am in Paris. They also have gluten free options, keto options, vegan options, etc. .... check it out! Delicious!!

It’s been a week! One week of focused self care while still working and doing what I need to do elsewhere. I highly recommend putting yourself first. I feel calmer and healthier and I’ve been getting rid of things I don’t need, both emotionally and physically. Decluttering feel so good! What tips do you have for decluttering? Answer in the comments please. I want to know!

Did you do something nice for yourself today? I did! Today was a day for connecting with visiting family members. I resisted the urge to cut the visit short because of work demands. Work will always be there. Every minute surrounded by loved ones is so precious. Even my young niece noticed the change in my energy level and mood. A keen and astute observation from a millennial? I'll take it! (She is an awesome young lady.)

High point of the day ... allowing myself to focus on only three major tasks, and getting them done. Low point? Straying from my diet and eating last-minute, not so healthy food with my hubby at dinner time. Lesson? Prep dinner the night before or in the morning so there is no last minute deciding about what to eat. Will do that tomorrow. Bonus: Going to bed at a reasonable hour and logging off of social media. Gnite!

"Relaxing for the Rest of Us" .... I have ADD. I find it hard to stay still. I love my work, so I rarely burn out from it. Until I do ...! Taking time out to chill is important, but I have to do my way. During my 40 days of Self Care I am adopting a self-discovered technique I call call"Task Pairing." This is a great strategy for practicing self care while still completing a "must do task" and it is perfect for ADD or busy types. Hate laundry? Slap on a mud mask or a moisturizing hair treatment or other skin care treatment, and then fold clothes for 15 or 20 minutes. Race through the task if you need to so you don't keep the product on too long. Pair the tasks consistently. Whenever you think "laundry", also think "beauty treatment" or "grooming." In time it will become automatic.

Also, don't attach how it "should be" when you treat yourself. So you don't have cucumbers on your closed eyelids while you listen to relaxing spa music and let your mask set. So what?! Get your reward in however you can and enjoy the result. Don't judge the method. Just reap the benefits of doing something for yourself on a consistent basis.

More examples: Adopt your 50 minute dryer time as "go for a walk" time or squats/situps/pushups/stretching time. Need to memorize lyrics? Make that your consistent foot soak time. Set aside 30 minutes to do them at the same time. When you attach an activity you do begrudgingly to one you would like to do or *should do, you will have the best of both worlds. There is nothing wrong with including a reward regimen as part of a "must do" regimen. Life is short ... get your rewards in along with your goals and daily tasks.

DAY 1. Setting the tone by not overdoing it with a ridiculously impossible plan. Half of the battle for me is just slowing down. I try to do too many things all in one day. My task eyes are bigger than my task stomach. Today I’m going to pick just three things to complete. Instead of 15. And I’m going to enjoy the weather outside by doing some HIIT cardio with my dog over by the lakes at Desert Shores. Today is a green smoothie breakfast, get outside and enjoy fresh air, and slay three tasks in my office kind of day. ❤️ Over the next 40 days I plan to take care of myself every day by exercising, getting fresh air, focusing on less tasks per day so that I actually get something done, and eating a balanced diet. I’ll throw some meditation in the mix, and document how things go as I try different things. It all starts with slowing down though. Think tortoise instead of hare. We know who won that race!
