Dear Chocolate Cake,

It was love at first bite. You may come in many forms: layered, molten, bundt, fluffy, mousse-y, decadent, frosted… …but we love you all the same. You’re the reason we know what happiness tastes like. Your special day may only come once a year on January 27th, but you’re also the reason we know how to REALLY celebrate a birthday or a sweet valentine. We would make ourselves sick over you. We would steal the last piece for you. We’d even lick the bowl for you. But no matter what, we’ll keep coming back for you.

Thank you always for your chocolatey, decadent goodness.

Sincerely,

All the Chocolate Cake Lovers of the World

International Sweatpants Day is marked on January 21 every year, and we’re going to celebrate it by wearing our sweatpants all day long!

Although it might not be possible if there’s a dress code for your school or workplace. Can you believe that sweatpants have been around for close to 100 years? Sweatpants are casual soft trousers originally designed for athletes and comfort.

They are made using stretched knitted jersey fabrics with an elastic waistband, drawstring, and sometimes elastic cuff hems. Sweatpants can either be loose and baggy or in form-fitting shapes, using thick or thin materials, and come in various colors. Outside the United States, they are called tracksuit bottoms, track pants, or trackies.

NATIONAL CANDY CANE DAY ACTIVITIES

Add some candy canes to your hot chocolate
If you're like our families, you might use this day to rest and recharge after days of bustling around for the holidays. It's the perfect excuse to curl up with some hot chocolate. Celebrate candy canes by crushing some up into your warm drink.

Make peppermint bark
You may be tired of cookies and other baked goods. If so, this will be the perfect treat since it's made with crushed candy canes, white chocolate, and milk chocolate. Peppermint bark can also serve as the perfect "thank you" for that sweet gift your received.

Stock up for next year

Today, December 20th, marks National Hard Candy Day—a celebration of a timeless treat beloved by all ages. This day honors the sweet tooth in each of us and shines a spotlight on one of the simplest yet most delightful confections.

Hard candy, known for its vibrant flavors and satisfying crunch, is crafted almost entirely from sugar, enhanced with flavorings and colors for variety. To make these treats, confectioners heat sugar syrup to a precise 320 degrees Fahrenheit, a temperature at which the syrup becomes pliable. It is then poured into molds or shaped through rolling and folding. Once cooled, the syrup hardens into the brittle, glossy candy we know and love.

The history of hard candy is as fascinating as its flavors. Originally, sweets like lemon drops and peppermints were created as medicinal remedies, often used to soothe stomach ailments. However, it wasn’t until the 17th century, when sugar became more affordable, that hard candy transitioned from a luxury item for the wealthy to a widely accessible treat. By the mid-1800s, its popularity had soared, with over 400 companies dedicated to producing these sugary delights.
So, on this National Hard Candy Day, take a moment to reflect on our favorite treat.

What’s your favorite hard candy?

🍪🍪🍪Bake Cookies Day is on December 18, just in time for Christmas. Cookies are more than just a baked treat, with generations bonding over it. What we love best about cookies is their versatility; crispy or soft and chewy, traditional shapes or special cookie-cutter designs, sugar, spices, dried fruit, chocolate, the list of options goes on. So get baking and fill your house with the aroma of warm, soft cookies baked to perfection.

DECEMBER 13th IS NATIONAL COCOA DAY!☕🍫

Hot cocoa is typically made with cocoa powder, heated milk or water, and sugar. However, some also call it hot chocolate, which causes a bit of confusion. Hot chocolate is made by using ground chocolate containing cocoa butter. We can also make chocolate liquor by fermenting, drying, roasting, and grinding cocoa beans. After this, the cocoa butter is removed, and we are left with only the cocoa powder. This cocoa powder is used to make hot cocoa. It is a relatively healthy drink with very little fat and calories, depending on what you add to it! SO POUR UP A HOT CUP TODAY!

Top 10 Flu Season Facts!

In the U.S., flu can start to circulate as early as October, peak between December and February, and extend through May! The best time to get vaccinated is before flu begins circulating in your community.

It’s not “just” flu! On average every year in the U.S., flu results in millions of illnesses, hundreds of thousands of hospitalizations, and tens of thousands of deaths. Aside from COVID-19, flu is the deadliest vaccine-preventable disease in the U.S.

Everyone is at risk from flu, but young children, pregnant women, older adults, and people with chronic medical conditions are especially vulnerable. Read about people who have been personally impacted by flu.

Annual flu vaccination is recommended for everyone six months and older, with rare exception. Flu vaccines have been updated this season to help protect against three circulating strains of flu.

Vaccination is the best defense we have against flu-related illness, hospitalization, and death. Getting vaccinated helps protect YOU, your loved ones, and your community!

There is a preferential flu vaccine recommendation to better protect people aged 65 years and older. Older adults should receive a high-dose, adjuvanted, or recombinant flu vaccine.

A flu vaccine can’t make you sick! Check out our FAQs at the bottom of this page.

Flu vaccines can be given at the same time as other vaccines, including COVID-19 vaccines. And an important note: COVID vaccines DO NOT protect you against flu!

It’s recommended that you get a flu vaccine by the end of October and BEFORE flu starts spreading in your community, although vaccination later in the season can still be beneficial.

Flu vaccination can be convenient and free! Vaccines are available at doctors’ offices, pharmacies, clinics, local health departments, schools, and grocery stores.

The best way to protect yourself and your family from serious flu illness is to get vaccinated. Everyone 6 months and older is recommended to get a flu vaccine every year.
