A good man. Condolences.

It is with heavy hearts that we share the passing of one of Scotland County’s finest, Mac McDougald. (380)

Mac dedicated over 30 years of service to the citizens of Scotland County and the state of North Carolina with the North Carolina Forest Service. After his retirement, his commitment to public service never wavered. He continued serving our community as Chairman of the Scotland County Fire Commission, a role he faithfully carried out until his passing.

To know Mac was to love him. He was a man full of stories, wisdom, and laughter — and he could make the best banana pudding you ever tasted. More than anything, he was a true friend to all. His leadership, dedication, and heart for the fire service will leave a lasting impact on Scotland County for generations to come.

Please keep Mac’s family, along with all Scotland County first responders, in your thoughts and prayers during this difficult time.

Rest easy, Mac. Your service and legacy will never be forgotten.

Jordan McQueen, Fire Chief

🚨 Laurinburg Fire Fun PSA 🚨

If you’re out living your best life on four-wheelers, sleds, or anything that slides for fun (again… not your car 😅):

📱 Newer iPhones think every hard wipeout is a Hollywood-level crash and will call 911.
📍 Life360 likes to snitch too.

If your phone starts screaming:
👉 Check it
👉 Cancel it if you’re okay
👉 ANSWER when 911 calls back

Otherwise, we’ll be hauling across the county trying to rescue… your phone.

Have fun, be safe, and help us save the lights and sirens for real emergencies 🚒🔥

Recently, the Scotland County Public Safety & Emergency Services Association applied for a grant with the Scotland Memorial Foundation. We were fortunate to be approved, and as a result, we will be receiving a new LUCAS Device in the coming weeks. We would LOVE to have one for each duty truck, but you've got to start somewhere, and the devices are not cheap! The LUCAS is a device that provides mechanical chest compressions, which is used as an alternative to a human compressor. We know that high-quality CPR is the essential component influencing survival in cardiac arrest, and the AHA's five components of high-quality CPR are: minimizing interruptions, maintaining adequate rate, maintaining adequate depth, allowing adequate chest recoil, and ventilating appropriately. Take a look at this short, simulated video to get an idea of how advancing medical devices can assist us in giving the best care possible. Thank you, Scotland Memorial Foundation!
