This post is focused on the “real life” aspect of what can happen in adulthood when you experienced Adverse Childhood Experience’s (ACE’s) as a kiddo.
Some of us don’t even know we have early childhood trauma and are walking around affected by it. This might look like being overweight but feeling like it’s impossible to lose weight, or it could be something like the unexplained panic that seems to come from nowhere. Or maybe it’s what drew you to smoking ci******es or drinking as a coping mechanism.
In SER (SomatoEmotional Release), we can begin to access some of these deep-rooted energy cysts, and over time, open up to more healing, vitality, and health.
Here’s a little more context on the research…..
Research links early trauma and other adverse experiences in childhood to physical, psychological and intimacy issues in adulthood.
In my previous post, we talked about what ACE’s are (all kinds of things could be considered “adverse” in childhood - from feeling abandoned to being exposed to inappropriate material at a young age, to something as common as divorce or separation.
Research is now showing us how ACE’s are linked to chronic health conditions (both physical and psychological), such as diabetes, heart disease, cancer, anxiety, depression and addiction.
Childhood trauma is common among ALL races and socioeconomic statuses.
There are some pretty astounding statistics for individuals who experienced 4 or more ACE’s based on a recent study*. Individuals with ACE scores of 4 or more are:
-11.1 times as likely to become intravenous drug users
-7.2 times as likely to become alcoholic
-6.6 times as likely to engage in early-life sexual in*******se
-3.6 times as likely to be depressed
