We hear this ALL the time in our community. "My hospital says they aren't equipped to handle a VBAC.". But wait... If they cannot handle a VBAC emergency, doesn't that mean they would also be under-equipped to handle other obstetric emergencies? These comments can be so frustrating when the reality is that VBAC complications are not the only potential emergencies in the birth world. Have you heard this from your provider? How did you navigate it?

I will always support q***r and disabled folks. I will always support people who want abortions or having miscarriages and need support. I will never second guess supporting you. Never!

I will never support a government who doesn’t believe people deserve rights because it doesn’t align with their life or religion.

Nobody talks about your C-section scar. How it can be tight, and hurt months or even years later.

They also don’t tell you to massage your scar as soon as it’s healing, start light but eventually move to deep tissue massage. Use coconut oil or vitamin E when massaging. Listen to your body, do not go too firm at first. Start with a few mins a day and make a goal of getting to 5-10 mins.

πŸŒ™ This will increase blood flow and promote faster healing

πŸŒ™ It can reduce pain, itching and sensitivity

πŸŒ™ Can help prevent Adhesions

πŸŒ™ Improves skin tightness

πŸŒ™ Can help recalibrate your nervous system, which can help you tolerate pressure on the scar

You can do this forever but recommended time is two years after. And it’s never too late to start either. 🩷

A quick reminder of a few key facts, and a link to find out more.

Vitamin K is offered to all newborn babies.

It is up to parents to decide whether their baby has vitamin K.

Vitamin K is offered as a routine preventative treatment because a tiny number of babies (about 1 in 11,000 in high-income countries) develop a serious bleeding problem, and vitamin K can prevent this.

As always, there's a bigger picture, and a number of things that parents might want to take into account when making their decision.

If you’re a parent or parent-to-be who is looking for resources on Vitamin K, we have an information hub on this on www.sarawickham.com/vk, where you can also see details of Dr Sara Wickham's book on this topic.
