🌿 Rhubarb might be one of the most nostalgic garden plants I know.

♥️ For many people, Rheum rhabarbarum brings memories of grandparents’ gardens, old family recipes, spring harvests, farmhouse kitchens, summer pies cooling on windowsills, and childhood moments tied deeply to food, land, and ancestry. In this video I’m sharing one of the newest additions to my expanding garden while reflecting on my Italian immigrant grandparents, their abundant vegetable gardens, my grandmother Tina’s roses, and the unforgettable ritual of dipping freshly harvested Rhubarb stalks into sugar during hot summer afternoons.

🌿 Historically, related Rhubarb species were also used medicinally in traditional Chinese herbalism and European herbal medicine long before culinary Rhubarb became popular in cottage gardens. Rhubarb root has historically been associated with digestive and bowel support traditions, though medicinal use requires proper education, preparation, and safety knowledge.

Spiritually and energetically, Rhubarb feels deeply ancestral to me… a plant connected to kitchens, nourishment, family lineage, domestic folk magic, abundance, preservation, hospitality, and remembering where we come from. In folk traditions, gardens themselves were often sacred spaces of protection, survival, healing, and practical magic. Plants like Rhubarb remind us that some of the oldest forms of magic were simply feeding people with love.

As Memorial Day approaches, I’ve found myself reflecting deeply on family, remembrance, and the quiet ways service shapes generations 🇺🇸 I come from a military family with grandparents, parents, uncles, cousins, and loved ones who served across different branches including the Navy and Marines. Growing up surrounded by that sense of duty, resilience, sacrifice, and care for community left a lasting imprint on me, and this time of year always brings those memories close to the surface.

✨🌿✨ At The Enchanted Altar, our work centers around healing, ritual, remembrance, and connection… and in many ways, Memorial Day carries those same themes. It is a time to honor those who gave of themselves in service, to hold gratitude for the freedoms and communities we often take for granted, and to remember the loved ones who are no longer physically beside us but whose presence still lives on through story, tradition, memory, and love.

🕯️ For those wishing to create a quiet moment of remembrance this weekend, we do carry our Ancestor candles in the shop… beautiful companions for reflection, prayer, gratitude, or simply sitting beside the memory of someone deeply loved and missed.

🌚 There is something about this Ta**us New Moon that does not feel rushed. Not everything sacred arrives like lightning. Some transformations root slowly underground before they ever bloom where others can see them.

Lately I think many of us have been carrying collective exhaustion, uncertainty, creative pressure, financial stress, and the strange feeling of trying to build a meaningful life while the world keeps shifting beneath our feet. This week’s Ta**us New Moon feels less like “manifest instantly” and more like: rest… recalibrate… nourish the roots… and continue becoming.

Happy Mother’s Day to all mothers beneath the stars… and to the mothers now dancing among them. ✨Across cultures and throughout time, mothers have been seen as sacred gateways… portals between the unseen and the living world. Through body, spirit, sacrifice, tenderness, and fierce love, they help weave souls into this earthly experience.
