Most people have never heard of Lp(a) - but it might be one of the most important numbers related to your cholesterol panel.
🧬 Lipoprotein(a), or Lp(a), is a genetically determined cholesterol particle that can increase your risk for cardiovascular disease - even when your LDL, triglycerides, or total cholesterol look perfectly fine.
Here’s what you need to know:
✔️ It’s inherited - not caused by lifestyle
✔️ It’s rarely tested on standard lipid panels
✔️ High levels can increase your risk of plaque buildup, clotting, or inflammation
✔️ Knowing your number gives you power - because it helps you and your provider tailor prevention early
While lifestyle changes don’t directly lower Lp(a), they can reduce the impact of elevated levels through:
🥗 Optimized metabolic health
🧘♀️ Inflammation reduction
💊 Advanced therapies (for those who qualify)
If you’ve never seen Lp(a) on your lab report. Ask for it.
It’s one small test that can make a big difference in understanding your long-term heart and metabolic health.
