🚨 Drug Trend Update: “Purple Fentanyl” in Kansas City 🚨
Our team has received many questions recently about reports of “Purple Fentanyl” (fentanyl mixed with lidocaine and purple dye) circulating in the Kansas City area.
Here’s what you need to know:
✅ Despite local news reports, there is no evidence that “Purple Fentanyl” is resistant to Narcan (naloxone).
✅ Overdose response protocols remain the same: focus on airway/breathing support (rescue breaths or bagging) and administer naloxone.
✅ Lidocaine has been mixed into street drugs before—it can increase fentanyl’s effects, but naloxone still blocks fentanyl and reverses the dangerous respiratory depression.
✅ Lidocaine poisoning alone is very unlikely to be fatal.
We are monitoring this and other emerging drug trends closely, and if recommendations change, we’ll share updates right away.
